As anexperienced nurse or AHP / Therapist, you may well have managed people withlower limb lymphoedema. Bringing your experience of this group is important butyou will find that chronic oedema and lymphoedema management is so muchbroader; it affects all sites and conditions from facial oedema to upper armand lower leg. You will need all your skills of creativity and compassion forthis marginalised group of people. You will love to use compression therapy andwill be keen to know so much more

Main duties of the job

Youwill be a nurse or therapist who is looking for their next stage of theircareer. You may not consider yourself a specialist but that does not matterIt is your inherent interest and passion that is important now Skills can betaught; you will be keen to develop your knowledge for the benefit of yourpatient and team. You will have a special interest in people with chronicswelling and a keen interest in compression therapy of all kinds. You willrecognise the complexity of peoples lives and wish to support people inmanaging this.

Youwill bring a positive can do mentality; being who is creative and solutionfocussed is critical and supports the whole team. You will enjoy teamwork andautonomy to ensure the key deliverables of this exciting role are completed andyou develop. Respect and confidentialitywill underpin the role alongside integrity and the ability to managechallenging situations. Being proactive and organised with excellent attentionto detail is essential.

The role of a Specialist is to utilise your passion for yourgrowing specialism and your enhanced skills in the care and management ofcomplex patients in the population we serve. As a specialist you will bringcreative thinking to complex issues, utilising your skills to manage a varietyof situations borne out of complex psychosocial, medical or health needs.Contributing to the broader development of the service is essential so thatAccelerates mission to reduce harm in this marginalised group is made visible.Thus leadership, team working and seeking creative solutions are keycharacteristics of this role.

The specialist nurse or therapist will be accountable to andprovide direct support to the Clinical Lead. This will enable effectivemanagement of patient and team objectives whilst remaining focussed on ourmission.

The purpose of the Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist inAccelerate is to

1. Provide advanced skills to the population,delivered in a thoughtful, creative and timely manner. Being solution focussedand collaborative are key features of this role.

2. Take responsibility for delivery of all aspectsof the service under direction of the Delivery Lead

3. Bringing critique to internal and externalsystems, driving creative team work to effect positive change

4. Providing an excellent role model for juniorstaff; mentoring and line management as the role progresses

5. Initiating and championing individualised carethat enables people to tolerate treatments and thereby improve outcomes

6. Collaborating with the Clinical Lead to deliverQuality improvement initiatives, KPIs and internal audit

7. Delivering education (internal and external) andbusiness development with other providers.

8. Collaborating with the Business Team to deliveran effective Dressing scheme and effective use of resources with our partners

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

First level Registered Nurse Current NMC qualification or equivalent OR Registered AHP / Therapist Chronic oedema Training

Desirable

Leg ulcer management course Prescribing course

Experience

Essential

Minimum 3 years nursing or AHP experience post qualification Experience of community management Clinical experience of patients with long term conditions Knowledge of chronic oedema treatment and compression therapies Experience of working autonomously within a team Experience of teaching, formal or informal Knowledge of Governance and Quality Improvement in health care Experience of Electronic Records systems

Desirable

Experience of Clinical Audit Understanding of the Quality Improvement Cycle Line Management Cancer/palliative care knowledge and experience
