Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and innovative Registered Nurses to join the management teams on our inpatient psychiatric wards in London, based in the mental health unit in Mile End hospital. You will have at least two years acute in-patient experience as a band 5 nurse.

We are looking for skilled and passionate clinicians. To be successful in this role, you will need to be enthusiastic, forward thinking and have a keen interest in working on an in-patient mental health setting. You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, providing care for patients with a wide range of needs.

The Clinical Practice Leads will support the Clinical Nurse Manager with 24-hour operational responsibility and accountability for the provision and management of high quality nursing care and for the treatment of service users within the inpatient service area. You will be required to support developing the service and nursing team, support care delivery and work with service users and staff to ensure the provision of practices that respond effectively to both individual and service need.

Furthermore, the post holder will support establishing and maintaining team systems and processes for the effective operation of the service. The successful candidates must display a considerable degree of initiative, possess mature judgement and maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with service users, their relatives, colleagues and visitors.

Main duties of the job

To co-ordinate and provide care and treatment to an identified group of patients without direct supervision. In addition, supporting junior staff in delivery of care provision.
To manage and organise work as required.
Take responsibility for the development and delivery of evidence based practice for service users with complex needs, ensuring that it supports and reflects service user individual needs, Trust objectives and professional guidance.
Contribute to the development of high quality evidence based in-patient services in a changing health care environment.
Contribute towards ensuring that the ward functions as an integral part of the Directorate’s services.
Effective communication with all relevant personnel both internal and external to the Trust.
To practice within professional guidelines and promote professional practice in clinical area.
To ensure continuous personal development through the utilisation of regular supervision, annual appraisal and training where appropriate.
To provide clinical leadership and supervision to the staff group in order to promote and develop excellence in practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Developing the teams’ ability to ensure that a service user centred multi-disciplinary approach to care is present  Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in keeping with evidence based practice.  Lead in direct care to complex service users and role model to junior staff.  To provide specialist guidance to junior staff relevant to clinical speciality.  Ensuring that a high standard of practice is maintained in relation to the detention of mentally ill clients under the Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. Ensuring that least restrictive practices are promoted within individual care.  Develop and implement specialist programmes of care which could include individual and group interventions. Ensure that care reflects individual and cultural needs.  Ensure that the ward environment is pleasant, clean, comfortable and suitable for its use at all times liaising with other departments as necessary.  Ensure that the service provides holistic care that incorporates excellence in physical health care management.  Ensuring that all practices are within the guidelines set out by the NMC and other professional groups and are in accordance with Trust policies.  Knowledge of safeguarding issues and management processes.  Additional skills, knowledge intervention might include non-medical prescribing, psychological therapy's, and family intervention
