Job summary

A new, exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced HR & Workforce professionals to join our Resolutions Hub -- a service we are developing to help us manage workplace conflict in a way that is consistent with our values of compassion, excellence and collaboration.

The Resolutions Hub is made up of experienced investigators, coaches and mediators who can be called upon when needed to support employee relations casework.

Our Investigating Officers undertake casework investigations in a range of complex employment matters including disciplinary, grievance, bullying and harassment and Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS) involving high / medium risk cases in formal procedure. These investigations cover the full range of staff groups including both medical and non-medical staff and support the Trust in achieving a timely and just culture approach to our resolution processes.

In these roles, you'll work with our senior managers in the Trust and our Workforce and Employee Relations team to establish the investigation terms of reference, interviewing witnesses as required and producing a comprehensive report with recommendations. You'll also attend formal meetings and hearings to present your findings.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for individuals who have excellent analytical skills and experience in leading employee related investigations (within an NHS setting would advantageous) or have extensive experience in employee related matters. These roles would suit someone who has a "portfolio" career as work will depend on a) cases arising and b) a match between skills, experience and investigation needs.

To succeed in this role, you'll need to be comfortable in working autonomously, you will be able to be flexible with your workload and work to and consistently achieve targets. An effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, you'll need to be able to demonstrate a clear and non-judgemental approach alongside a cultural awareness with a good understanding and positive approach to diversity.

Successful applicants will be required to be cleared for work with all pre-employment checks being undertaken before inclusion on the Hub. The intention is for all our Hub professionals to be able commence investigation work as the need arises. Once commissioned, you must be able to commit to a strict timetable that facilitates investigations being concluded within a maximum of 4 weeks wherever possible.

All appointments to The Resolutions Hub are reviewed on a 12-month basis.

Qualifications

Essential

CIPD qualification or masters-level related qualification or significant commensurate experience of working at a senior level. Investigator training ACAS, performance Practitioner Advisory Service, MHPS training or equivalent experience.

Desirable

Training in a relevant topic such as coaching, mediation or employment law. Alternative Dispute Resolution Training mediation, coaching, facilitation training.

Experience

Essential

Employee Relations and / or MHPS experience in a complex NHS organisation -- including the resolution of complex cases up to and including dismissal. Excellent understanding of employee relations, employment law and HR best practice and how to interpret this. Significant investigation experience in a complex, multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse organisations. Understanding of and ability to interpret terms and conditions of employment (AfC, medical etc) Proven experience of preparing for and participating in ER hearings and appeals. Demonstrable experience of producing high quality written reports with the ability to draw clear and concise findings. Ability to analyse varied and highly complex information or situations and to produce solutions / strategies tactfully and with discretion. Ability to plan and organise own workload to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and ability to develop excellent problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to effectively interact with and influence a diverse range of people. Tactful when dealing with complex, sensitive and confidential ER issues.
