The Cambian Group is one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural health services for children and adults in the UK. Our work in the UK embraces many specialist services including adult mental health, acquired brain injury, children’s specialist education, children’s residential services and fostering services.

The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52 week residential specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, sever learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and complex needs. The children and young people that attend our school range between the ages of 11 and 19 years.

The Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the gardens and grounds to ensure that the premises are attractive and safe.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To carry out general gardening tasks as required.
  • To keep hard play areas, paths and roads clean.
  • To maintain all boundary fences and hedges in a good state of repair.
  • To prepare outdoor sports areas in consultation with PE staff.
  • To monitor the condition of any outdoor play equipment and report defects to the Domestic Bursar.
  • To keep woodland and shrub areas safe and clear of brambles, nettles, scrub etc.
  • To assist the Property Caretaker with the transportation or movement of heavy objects when requested.
  • To keep the grounds clear of litter at all times.
  • To ensure the safe condition, use and storage of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • To ensure that sheds, stores and greenhouses are maintained in a safe and tidy condition.
  • Ensure that any emergencies are dealt with speedily and effectively.
  • Ensure clear access for emergency services at all times.
  • Promote and maximise the security of the premises.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge and experience of how and when to perform tasks related to garden and grounds maintenance safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of general Health and Safety requirements in the workplace.
  • Ability to use a range of garden equipment and materials safely and appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain machinery and tools in line with manufacturers guidelines.
  • Ability to access all parts of the premises, by ladder if necessary and to life and move objects in line with health and safety guidelines.

Requirements for an Enhanced DBS and reference checking will be undertaken in line with government regulations and safer recruitment best practice.
