Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the CAMHS Therapeutic Education Team. Our Therapeutic Education service offers a range of therapeutic interventions to support young people and their triangle of care.

We're looking for someone with a recognised professional qualification in Mental Health or Learning Disability Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy. You must have a knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders in children and young people, as well as a good understanding of how to work towards change therapeutically.

This role will be working across the homes and at the therapeutic education centres. The role is varied with a mix of individual therapeutic work, group interventions, supporting care staff and daily linking with the team.

CAMHS offers excellent clinical / peer and management supervision with a workable caseload.

The team are supportive of each other and have weekly CDP slots/discussions to share learning and build on the teams skillsets/knowledge. It is a supportive atmosphere in the team and practitioners are given both line management and clinical supervision on a monthly basis.

Main duties of the job

The team have a base at Misterton Therapeutic Education Centre and build working relationships with key workers and other professionals from mental health services, education and social care. We place an emphasis on multi agency working, linking closely with the core CAMHS and homes to bring together a young persons existing network, to provide support and give opportunities to share any risk related concerns.

Our cohort of young people often require support to manage significant trauma and or attachment difficulties/disorders which makes trauma informed practice key for all of our practitioners

Responsibilities will include: assessing and evaluating the support given. You will be able to provide advice and practical support to young people and their families/carers as well as therapeutic interventions.

Care coordination will be a large part of the role. Ensuring young people have robust support plans across their homes and therapeutic education.

The team routinely support young people in their residential/foster homes as well as the Therapeutic Education Centre. We cover across the county of Somerset, making travel an essential part of the role.

You'll be responsible for building key working relationships with both internal and external parties including families, carers, local authorities and the Operational Service Manager.

The team currently consists of Mental Health Practitioners, Support Workers, OT's, Art Therapists and Clinical Psychologists. The team has a great skill mix which supports working within an MDT format to support young people and their families/carers in the community.

Therapeutic Education Manager/Operational Manager All team members within CAMHS Therapeutic Education Professionals within the locality Tier 3 CAMHS teams, Wider Homes and Horizons staff, Children's Social Care, Education, integrated therapy services, district general hospitals, Psychiatric Liaison Nurses, Community Eating Disorders Service for Children and Young People (CEDS-CYP) and psychiatric inpatient units.

External

Voluntary organisations offering services for young people Main duties/responsibilities To undertake a range of procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practice. To undertake training to be able to deliver brief interventions for a range of mental health difficulties to children and young people. To ensure that all appropriate assessments, plans and interventions are formulated within established, evidence-based systems and methods. To identify and discuss a range of health and social care needs with service users, carers and other professionals. To develop and co-ordinate specialised packages of care and intervention, underpinned by the Trauma Recovery Model To identify realistic and measurable goals /targets utilising evidence based approaches. To provide support and advice to service users, carers, colleagues and other professionals. To provide other healthcare professionals with specialised advice regarding mental health issues. To evaluate and reflect upon the quality of care given and the goals achieved. Qualifications

Essential

Recognised professional qualification in nursing, social work or occupational therapy Evidence of continuous post-qualifying professional development.

Post-qualifying training in therapeutic interventions

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with children and young people. Knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders in children and young people, and their impact on both the client group and their families/carers. Knowledge and understanding of RCPA (previously ICPA)
