Job summary

Are you a dedicated, professional nurse with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and young people with Neurodisability?An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term part time ( WTE) Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Movement Disorder Service (MDS).

The service accepts referrals for tertiary / quaternary level multi-disciplinary clinics which provide expert opinion /second opinion to referrers, as well as ongoing support & advice to families, referring teams and the wider specialism. The friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary team also provide acute interventional services for Botulinum Toxin, and SDR, including an acute rehabilitation service, as well as ad hoc in-patient consults in relation to management of movement disorders for acute patients within the trust.

As the CNS you must possess excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills to ensure the families are provided with high quality care and a smooth patient journey. The applicant should be able to demonstrate their ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The Movement Disorder Service (MDS) sits within The Wolfson Neurodisability Service (NDS) at GOSH. It is the regional specialist provider of tone management for North Thames and is commissioned as Southeast England provider for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).

It manages children and young people (CYP) with complex congenital and acquired movement disorders throughout childhood. The work is primarily Multidisciplinary (MDT) clinic assessment and management, but there is also diagnostic work when the aetiology of the movement disorder is not clear.

MDS has a strong interdisciplinary focus, the teams include Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics & Neurophysiology. The service has close links with other specialist national & international services both in paediatric and adult services.

The post-holder will work within the Neurodisability Movement Disorder Service and may be asked to with whom they will provide reciprocal cross cover for other specialist areas within the service for short leave periods between individuals in the CNS team to ensure continuity of a quality service for all patients.

To enable the fulfilment of these requirements, all CNSs are expected to work clinically as part of a ward roster. This requirement is equivalent to two full shifts per month based on full time employment (pro rata if part time) but may be subject to review according to service requirements.
