Job summary

A new and exciting job opportunity has arisen within our well-respected and integrated therapy team at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. We are recruiting a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist as part of the Foetal Exposure to Medications (FEM) part-time lead occupational therapist is a core member of this new highly specialist multidisciplinary outpatient team.

This 18-month pilot project will establish a first-of-its-kind service providing specialist diagnosis, care planning, and advice for those adversely affected byfoetal exposure syndromes.

We are therefore looking for a highly motivated therapist with occupation-focused expertise and experience working with patients who have sensory, social, physical and cognitive difficulties such as Foetal Valproate Spectrum Disorder (FVSD), Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

You will support the children, young people, and adults impacted by foetal exposure syndromes alongside their families as they access diagnosis and service provision. Therefore, understanding of the issues relating to the identification, assessment, treatment, and management of this client group is required.

Using advanced communication skills, you will participate in MDT clinics with assessment of clients in accordance with clinical networks, contribute to regular MDT meetings and deliver educational professional knowledge to local teams.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced senior clinician, you have recent and substantial experience working directly with children and young people/adults with physical and developmental disabilities including intellectual disability and/or difficulties with language, memory, learning and behaviour.Ideally a post-graduate qualification in sensory integration or working towards one would be an advantage. Previous experience of using patient experience measures, standardised outcome measures, developing education / training programmes and patient and parent literature/leaflets is also desirable.

As some of the affected young people/adults may have anxiety and/or depression previous experience of using a psychosocial approach would be beneficial.

You will be experienced working as part of an MDT team and referring appropriately to other health professionals; providing one-off interventional support with school to support participation and learning through enabling adjustments.

You will liaise collaboratively with community and education colleagues across the region about ongoing management of children and young people and advising families sensitively about the needs of their child and local provision.

The postholder will be based within the well-resourced, multi-disciplinary Children's Therapy and Dietetic department .
