Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Nightingale Ward for Senior Nursing Assistants. The successful candidate will work alongside the Ward Nursing team to provide the highest quality care for our patients.
Nightingale is a 28 bedded GI and emergency general surgical ward, providing care for acute emergency patients as well us Upper GI and Colorectal specialist surgeries and Gastro in-patients. Caring for our specialist patients will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop a wide variety of clinical knowledge & skills. We will support this development by sending you on study days.
We are a short stay, fast turn over surgical ward that offers an Enhanced Recovery Pathway & Short Stay Surgical service within the ward environment.
We support other surgical specialties with outlying patients from Orthopaedic, Vascular, Plastics and at times Gynaecology team. Offering a wide range of experience/ training available to our nursing team.
We also support the medical team with their workload pressures, particularly during winter months.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior Nursing Assistant, you will be working closely with the nursing team. You will be expected to undertake leadership duties and support all members of the team. You will be given appropriate training and support to enable you to do this role.
The role will encompass specific responsibility for supporting the nurses in their roles: assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care and expertise within the clinical area.
Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
We are looking to employ a hardworking, self-motivated individual preferably with extended skills and knowledge such as venepuncture and cannulation, basic wound care and ability to complete the admission assessments.
This role will allow you to develop and gain a wide range of additional clinical skills which will enhance your own personal development whist contributing to the high standard of care expected on Nightingale Ward.
You will be expected to work with the wider multi-disciplinary team and support junior colleagues such as nursing assistants and student nurses

Proven ability to adapt to new ideas, knowledge and skills. Demonstrate ability to use own initiative and work without close supervision. Understanding of the requirements of patient confidentiality. Good hygiene skills ( food handling, hand washing etc.)
