This is a terrific opportunity for an experienced journalist to join UnHerd’s senior editorial team. As Deputy Editor, you will work closely with the Editor to play a leading role in curating, editing and managing UnHerd’s daily output. With her, you will also help refine and define UnHerd’s future growth.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least five years of experience working at a senior level in a national newspaper or magazine.
  • Experience managing a team of editors and writers.
  • Excellent editing, commissioning and leadership skills.
  • An understanding of our mission and know how you can contribute to it.
  • Fluency in social media and awareness of how to grow an online audience.
  • Eagerness to work in a start-up environment: you need to be enthusiastic and nimble.

The ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • Play a central role in defining UnHerd’s expansion.
  • Contribute to UnHerd’s continued success, both editorially and strategically.
  • Balance on-edition pieces with longer-term projects, both in the UK and the US.
  • Manage UnHerd’s editorial team in the Editor’s absence.
  • Mentor and coach junior members of staff.
  • Consider how magazine pieces may feed into other sections of UnHerd, including events and YouTube videos.

Salary dependent on experience.
