We are recruiting a Paediatric Specialist Dietitian to our chronic conditions team, to support our paediatric patients in our Complications from Excess Weight (CEW) service.

As one of the few centres providing this service across England you will have the opportunity to develop care provision through research, quality improvement and networking with other Dietitians in services across England. This post will work as part of the CEW MDT which includes Dietitian, Nursing, Social worker, family support worker, physiotherapy and Doctors. You will also be part of the wider Dietetic department which has ~40 Dietitians and 8 support staff. Our department covers adults & paeds across a variety of specialties and we utilise all skills across the department to support each other both clinically and professionally.

Whatever your role in our department, you have a voice when it comes to how we work. If you've got an idea on how we can improve things we're willing to support you to take the lead on getting things right. We pride ourselves on our efforts to welcome new team members. We have regular social events & have monthly in-work lunches where we enjoy foods & drinks from a different country each time.

Main duties of the job

When you first arrive with us you will have a 4 week induction period where you will have the opportunity to experience the team, department and hospital before starting to undertake your job an ongoing basis your responsibilities will include:

Job responsibilities

To act as an independent advanced practitioner and be professionally and legally accountable and take responsibility for all aspects of own specialist clinical caseload. To work independently to undertake nutritional assessments and calculate nutritional requirements of patients with complex conditions using anthropometry. To communicate evidence based nutritional and dietary advice in an understandable form. To use highly developed communication and informal counselling skills such as reflective listening, open questioning, empathy, explanation and reassurance to communicate dietary intervention to patients and carers. To gain valid consent to treatment and negotiate change with patients by breaking down barriers, using motivational skills, to enable them to achieve dietary targets set. To devise, monitor and review complex nutritional care plans against outcome measures taking into account social, psychological, cognitive, behavioural and cultural needs, as well as taking into account the needs of the carer and adjust care plan to facilitate achievement of goals. To work in an often-stressful environment of looking after patients with a terminal illness and helping support the patient and carers through the emotional responsibility this can entail. To undertake designated specialist outpatient clinics. To actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings. To ensure safe and timely transfer of patients by liaising with appropriate internal and external agencies.

BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration in Dietetics

Significant post registration experience, some of which should be in the specialist area Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
