Job summary

The post holder will undertake a range of duties to ensure the smooth running of the workshop aspect of service provision.

The post holder will work to support manual and powered wheelchair repairs and preparation within the workshop and at other appropriate locations under the direction of the wider team. Within the role you will be involved in the maintenance of a stock system to support efficiency of service. Patient contact by way of supporting clinics, arranging handovers, deliveries and collection of provision prescribed. Due to the systems involved there is an expectation that the post holder will be IT literate and with training be able to support the wider logistics and therapy team and update databases and patient records as required.

Main duties of the job

Carry out refurbishment, maintenance and repair of wheelchairs and associated products as directed by staff at the Wheelchair Repair Workshop. Identify parts required for repairs and refurbishment via best practice, including verification of part codes, description and prices and updating local records as per the local process. Decontamination of equipment returned to service under the direction of Infection Prevention and Control Assist to manage department orders as per the local processes in place, including: Accept and review deliveries into department against orders placed. Support service process for establishing estimated delivery dates and acting when these fall outside timelines considered acceptable. Liaising with clients on repair requests and provision of new equipment where indicated.

Carry out pre-delivery checks on wheelchairs. Explain the use and care of wheelchairs to users, on delivery / handovers as per service standards. Assist Posture & Mobility Therapists in service delivery during assessment of wheelchair needs and by adapting equipment as required to meet postural complexities.
