Job summary

The Deputy Ward manager has delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical areas including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards on a shift basis and in the authorised absence of the Sister/Charge Deputy ward manager will participate in innovation and evidence based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team in close liaison with the Sister/Charge Nurse and the Senior Staff Nurse for QualityThe Deputy Ward manager will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum have delegated responsibility for the operational and management issues in the authorised absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse, and take on the leadership of specific projects as agreed with the Sister/Charge Nurse.

Take charge and co-ordinate 13 bedded Coronary care unit, working collaboratively with the other areas in the Heart centre.

Main duties of the job

Deputise for the Sister at Directorate/ Divisional meetings and working Deputy Ward manager has delegated responsibility for the management of the clinical areas including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards on a shift basis.Supports the ward manager in investigating and responding to accidents, complaints and untoward incident and other significant facilitate the admission and discharge of patients liaising with other agencies to ensure continuity of care between hospital and have a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the UHNM, and an ability to perform against those policiesAssist in the management of resources by participating in the selection, ordering and monitoring of departmental stock items, keeping within the financial constraints of the allocated effectively manage / have 24 hour responsibility for department in the authorised absence of the Sister.Support the Sister in the performance review of all ward staff which will include annual appraisal and individual personal development plans to monitor staff performance against objectives set with sickness and absence on a shift basis in line with the sickness and absence policy and the principles of safe staffing document.Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff for the ward.
