A new fixed term opportunity to join our Grants Team as a Grants Manager has arisen.

This role will start asap and will be fixed term until 31st December 2024.

About the Role:
The grants manager will provide specialist support to faculty teams and enable the Institute’s aim to increase grant funding by providing:

  • proactive advice and guidance to Faculty teams on funding opportunities and applications using knowledge and understanding based on the interpretation of information from relevant funding bodies;

  • managing grant applications and awards through the Institute’s electronic grants system, including project budgeting in accordance with funder terms;

  • review of grant terms and conditions to ensure the Institute’s interests are appropriately protected

  • to manage post award financial reporting and close out processes

  • to monitor and promote compliance with funding terms and conditions on grant projects

  • to manage sub-grants and any associated due diligence requirements

  • to manage a portfolio of grants for faculty teams


You will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist advice and guidance to Faculty and their teams, , keeping fully informed at all times of funders’ policies, procedures and regulations and disseminating information across the Faculty, advising on strategy as appropriate. 

  • Processing and supporting the development of funding proposals from Faculty and their teams, including to the appropriate costing of the research proposals and the electronic submission/approval of applications.

  • Management of the grant lifecycle from project inception to award, financial reporting and close-out

  • Reviewing funder/contract terms to determine suitability and risk, working closely with Legal

  • Manage issues and matters arising on 3rd party-funded grants post-award, for example, project set-up, grant starting procedures, virement of funds, liaising with Principal Investigator, Finance, Human Resources as appropriate.


About You:
You will be someone interested in research/grants management with a passion for supporting and driving GRL's scientific progress. A well organised individual with an eye for detail, capable of interacting with a variety of stakeholders, including research management staff and faculty.

About Us:
We are a small, friendly and close knit team focused on growing GRL's scientific portfolio. We work very closely with Sanger's Finance Partners, Legal team and Research Management staff to manage GRL's grant portfolio.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills able to relate to, and work with, individuals at senior levels both within the Institute and externally.

  • Strong organised approach; ability to multi-task and work to competing and often tight deadlines. Manage complex processes involving a number of individuals

  • Strong team player 

  • Experience of research or grant administration is desirable
