We are excited to be able to offer the opportunity for a permanent, part time, Children's Occupational Therapy Technician Post. The post holder will be based within the South locality and be part of the Torbay OT Team. You will work alongside the OT Team to assess, implement and evaluate OT interventions to create the best outcomes for children.

Main duties of the job

To follow up assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of delegated caseload and escalating changes to the registered therapist for children and young people with physical and sensory, communication and interaction and cognition and learning needs in a variety of settings. To undertake clinical interventions utilising a variety of modes, including planning and leading group and individual therapy and issuing appropriate equipment as part of packages of prescribed care after achieving appropriate competencies. Using strengths-based approach; ensure clinical effectiveness through the use of evidenced-based interventions, goal-based, collaborative practice and Routine Outcome Measures. To support in the supervision of Trainees. To promote and support participation of service users across the service. Produce materials and make equipment as required. Assist in the delivery of training.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be a good communicator in order to work with children/young people and families who have a range of communication difficulties, using appropriate communication methods. To have responsibility for reporting back on progress to the supervising therapist. To collect case related information and data from clients, carers, referrers and other relevant sources and report this to the registered therapist. To provide and receive routine information where there are barriers to understanding face to face, over the telephone and electronically maintaining confidentiality at all times. To provide non-clinical information and advice directly to parents / carers and others. Contributing to creating and maintaining high performing teams by communicating well with all members of the team, understanding the role in the service and how to help the team service achieves its objectives. Reflect on their own practice regularly. To assess responses to treatment programmes and decide appropriate action discuss with the registered practitioner. To be responsible for keeping contemporary and accurate session notes, ensuring recording of treatment aims and outcomes. To frequently arrange meetings and inform patients of appointments and cancellations at the request of the registered therapist. To use personal initiative to manage and prioritise own workload. To recognise potential breakdown and conflict when it occurs and seek advice and support to resolve as appropriate. To monitor stock levels, escalating through the appropriate channels as required. Maintaining compliance with mandatory training requirements. To implement specialised treatment programmes as prescribed by the registered therapist. To provide skilled, evidence-based care which adheres to agreed policies and procedures and extent of agreed competencies. To use routine outcome measures and a goal-based approach, collaboratively with children/young people and their families, in ways that inform treatment and clinical care. To escalate concerns and clinical outcomes of care to registered therapists. To adapt practice to meet individual patient/client circumstances. Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services and scope of extended competencies. To access clinical supervision in line with the organisations policy. To demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice with peers and mentors and identify own strengths and development needs. To identify and manage risks through incident reporting when appropriate. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

oTraining to NVQ level 3 or equivalent oAdditional CPD courses relevant to role equivalent to Diploma level oFunctional Skills at Level 2 (Literacy and numeracy/ GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths)

Knowledge and experience

Essential

oWorking knowledge of typical child development oUnderstanding of SEN/D process oAwareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care including Clinical Governance, NICE, Essence of Care oKnowledge of up to date clinical practice oWorking with children with special and complex needs oExperience delivering therapeutic programmes oExperience in working as a healthcare worker
