JOB PURPOSE

To drive LGV /HGV Class 1 Vehicles to deliver Aggregate Goods to our Customer base in a Safe Efficient Manner whilst ensuring the Health & Safety of yourself and other Public road users. Our drivers are the face of our business and ambassadors for Maen Karne. We strive to be No.1 for our customers and drivers and to do that we want the very best drivers. We may or may not be the first company you have driven for but once you join us we think you'll want to stay.


In your role as a Multi Skilled/Multi Site Driver, you may also be required to undertake your days' work out of our Plymouth sites (PL7 5JN or PL7 5BS) or our Uffculme site (EX15 3EP). You will be required to cover both Class 1 and Class 2 on aggregate tipper vehicles, artic flatbed and where qualified any Hi-ab work.

 

Any need to change your daily working location will be confirmed the night before your shift (or a Friday if the shift is a Monday) You will be reimbursed any additional mileage travelled over and above your normal commute in line with standard HMRC mileage rates.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is an important role within Maen Karne, with primary responsibility to:

 

  • Full responsibility for the safe and efficient delivery of bagged aggregates to various customer locations across Devon and Cornwall.
  • Checking the safety and condition of the vehicle at the start of each day and to record its condition using the system provided and to promptly report any faults as they occur.
  • Caring for the company's vehicle and assets whilst in your charge and ensuring they are used according to manufacturer's recommendations and all legal and company requirements.
  • Driving as efficiently and productively as possible within the prevailing road and traffic conditions.
  • Giving due consideration to the health and safety of self, the public and other road users at all times.
  • Complying with all relevant legislation in line with Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive requirements.
  • Ensuring all documentation is completed promptly and accurately.
  • Adhering to safe working practices at all times to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Representing the company both on the road and at the customers' premises in a professional and considerate manner at all times and promptly reporting any issues to your manager or supervisor on the day.
  • Support the wider Maen Karne business to deliver its operational plans.
  • Provide cover across multiple sites.


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

  • Safety and Compliance - Complete accurate daily walk around checks and drive in a safe and appropriate manner at all times. Load security paramount.
  • Provide excellent customer service and meet our customers' needs in a safe and professional manner.
  • Class 1 License, up to date CPC Training.
  • Good regional geographic knowledge.
  • Good communication, numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good attention to detail - accuracy with delivery tickets.
  •        Must be happy to work from our Plymouth sites (PL7 5JN or PL7 5BS) or our Uffculme site (EX15 3EP).
