Job summary

Are you an experienced Band 5 occupational therapist looking to develop or someone looking to return to practice? We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our dynamic team at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex. Harefield Hospital has a long history looking after patients with heart and lung conditions including heart and lung transplantation. It is not necessary for candidates to have experience of working with this patient group as many skills will be transferable and you will be given a comprehensive training programme.

The successful OT will join the OT and multidisciplinary team in working with patients (and their families) with a variety of cardio-thoracic conditions including the transplant unit. The post holder will be assessing, providing interventions and managing discharge of a variety of cardiac and thoracic patients as part of a close MDT. This is a great opportunity to gain some experience in a specialist field but utilising all the core OT assessment and intervention skills including post-surgical assessment, functional assessment skills, group work (jointly with the arts team), palliative care interventions and discharge planning skills, with the opportunity to observe and gain experience with interventions in neuro and critical care.

Main duties of the job

This person will need good organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work as a member of a team. There is regular supervision, training and support from highly skilled senior Occupational Therapists to address learning needs and you will be expected to work closely with the other members of the MDT. There are excellent opportunities for CPD which team members are encouraged to attend and present at.

Job responsibilities

To provide Occupational Therapy interventions within the intensive care, high dependency environments, inpatient wards and out-patients in accordance with current Occupational Therapy service provision to these areas.

Manage a caseload of patients using evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. Provide this service with the Band 7 Occupational Therapist as an autonomous practitioner, demonstrating good problem solving and clinical reasoning skills, and independence in judgement.

Contribute with the Band 7 Occupational therapist to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy Service.

To play a role in the continuous development of the Trust as a member of the Occupational Therapy team and as a potential member of a range of Trust quality/process improvement project groups.

To work at weekends as required contributing to the 7 day occupational therapy service.
