Job summary

If you are looking for a new, exciting and challenging role then this could be the opportunity for you to join our dedicated and hard working Estates Team at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

You will play an important and pivotal role in maintaining an electrical service, plant and non medical equipment in a health care environment. You will also provide technical assistance for electrical issues to mechanical craftsmen, maintenance assistants and clients as required.

Thenormal working week will consist of hours as required between and 16:00pm over a 5 day period as agreed with your Line Manager.

Main duties of the job

To carry out a range of repairs,planned maintenance and installation works on electrical services, plant andnon-medical equipment.

To diagnose and repair electricalfaults on engineering installations, plant and non-medical equipment.

To undertake training anddevelopment to increase their core trade knowledge and understand the basics ofmechanical engineering/other trades.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Carry out all repairs and plannedmaintenance requests as assigned by Supervisor.

Carry out and complete all workto a high standard to the satisfaction of the client and your Supervisor andappropriate safety requirements.

Comply with Safe Systems of Work,operated by the Estates Maintenance Department, together with all relevantStatutory Regulations such as Health & Safety, COSHH, HTMs and otherguidance documents, etc.

To complete appropriate docketreports and task reports wholly and accurately, in conjunction with theDepartments Quality Management System.

Communicate effectively withclients/visitors to ensure jobs are completed to their satisfaction.

Project a good image of theDepartment by good conduct and demeanour.

Organise and instruct staff oflower grades when under your control.

Use relevant tools/specialist toolsand calibrated equipment, PPE and risk assessments on each task to ensureminimal H&S risk to self, staff and public.

Diagnose and repair faults inElectrical Plant and Equipment, have understanding in Mechanical EngineeringServices and Plumbing installations, to deal with new situations as they ariseand pass on to others.

Awareness and capability of theworking of Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Systems in NHS buildings.

Instruct others on the abovefeatures and other aspects of his work.

Design, manufacture, assemble,erect and install new works and certify as required.

Perform a basic range of work ofother crafts, with appropriate training.

Understand fully theinter-relationship between the various maintenance crafts and other groups.

Carry out all duties of lowergrade craftsmen within the Trust, as requested.

Normal duties will include taskssuch as repairing pumps, boilers, catering equipment, bedpan machines andgeneral electrical work, together with a wide variety of planned preventativemaintenance.

Requisition materials obtaincosts, etc. in compliance with the Departments procurement procedures and withTrust Standing Financial Instructions.

Utilise knowledge, training andexperience to enable basic risk assessments to be carried out prior to any workbeing undertaken.

To be able to work using owninitiative if the situation arises.

Work frequently in abnormalconditions and be prepared to carry out arduous tasks.

To carry a hand held device asrequired enabling contact via supervisor for urgent/emergency work repairs andwork allocation.

Must be prepared towork overtime and participate in "On-Call" Service (if required).

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent. Demonstrable post qualification experience, preferably on maintenance activities.

Desirable

Experience of working as a time-served electrician. Experience of contracting and electrical maintenance works.

Qualifications

Essential

City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent. City & Guilds 2380 BS7671 Wiring Regulations.

Desirable

Experience of working within an electrical role. Experience of working within a NHS organisation within the estates function.

Knowledge and Awareness

Essential

Electricity at Work Regulations. Health & Safety. COSHH. Good working practices.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

Good fault finding skills. Basic understanding of other trades. Ability to Prioritise.

Desirable

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Plumbing/Engineering skills.

Personal Attributes

Essential

Self-motivated with the ability to direct staff of lower grades. Meet the physical requirements for the role. Ability to work in difficult situations including confined spaces and abnormal conditions. Access to a vehicle with the ability to drive within the district.

Desirable

Must be able to work as part of a team.

Other

Essential

Must be prepared to work overtime and participate in "On-Call" Service (if required). Able to satisfy Occupational Health Screening. Current driving licence.

Desirable

Live within a reasonable distance of the Mid Yorkshire Trust Pinderfields site. Car owner. Current full driving licence.
