Job summary

These are 12-month posts to start in September 2024. They are ideally suited for anyone looking to gain experience additional clinical experience in tertiary neonatal medicine. These are not a recognised training posts but may be taken up as an OOPE. The posts will be incorporate 70% clinical duties and 30% protected research time. It will be necessary to present a research proposal as part of the competitive application process.

Main duties of the job

The posts will involve working on the tier 2 medical rota providing clinical care across the neonatal unit, the low dependency unit and postnatal wards at Liverpool Women's Hospital and the neonatal surgical unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. In addition to the ST4+ rota we have a 9 person ST 1-3 rota and a 25 person ANNP rota split into two tiers with some ANNPs specialising in low dependency care. These rotas are worked alongside each other to maintain an appropriate skill mix on all shifts.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The posts will involve working on the tier 2 medical rota providing clinical care across the neonatal unit, the low dependency unit and postnatal wards at Liverpool Womens Hospital and the neonatal surgical unit at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital. In addition to the ST4+ rota we have a 9 person ST 1-3 rota and a 25 person ANNP rota split into two tiers with some ANNPs specialising in low dependency care. These rotas are worked alongside each other to maintain an appropriate skill mix on all shifts.

The Neonatal Unit at Liverpool Womens Hospital

The regional neonatal unit at Liverpool Womens Hospital has 44 cots: 12 intensive care cots, 12 high dependency cots and a 20-cot low dependency area. The unit provides a state-of-the-art facility to provide world class neonatal care and is a tertiary referral centre for the Cheshire and Mersey Neonatal Network. The unit regularly accepts referrals from beyond the network with an average admission rate of more than 1200 babies per year.

The Neonatal Unit at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital

The Neonatal Surgical Unit at Alder Hey has 9 HDU cots for babies less than 60 weeks gestational age with surgical problems. Post-operative intensive care for these babies is presently provided on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Alder Hey with some of the smallest, sickest babies being transported to LWH for ongoing intensive care.
