Consultant in Community Child Health 10 PA's (will consider full or part time)

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic community paediatric team based at Mid Sussex Child Development Centre in Haywards Heath. The post holder will carry a neurodevelopmental and neurodisability caseload with potential to develop a lead role within the department (to be agreed with the applicant) and develop a role in research locally and nationally. There is a requirement for the post holder to support the teaching of medical students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and in supervising paediatric trainees within the Mid Sussex team.

The successful applicant will join a team of 4 consultants and a specialist doctor, to participate in all aspects of community paediatric work. The team are actively involved in training and there is one ST4/5 paediatric trainee and a foundation doctor (FY2) in the Child Development Centre.

The community paediatric team is based at Mid Sussex Child Development Centre in Haywards Heath, along with the multidisciplinary therapy team, and LAC health teams. There are close links with CAMHS, University Hospitals Sussex, Education and Social Services within West Sussex Council. The Centre provides a bright, spacious, and family friendly environment for multidisciplinary working. The team have always placed an emphasis on innovation and service development on multidisciplinary level for example establishing a tiered approach to autism assessment.

Main duties of the job

West Sussex has a well-developed LAC health team. IHAs are undertaken by doctors in the CDC.

The department is committed to teaching and provides clinical and research placements for students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

The department has led a number of national research studies including how to improve autism diagnostic services, how digital technology can be used to aid diagnosis and deliver therapy, and how to improve outcomes for children in care.

There is an active regional research network and research activity is encouraged and the post holder will be actively encouraged to develop their own research interests.

The Sussex Paediatric Sexual Assault Referral Centre is located on the same site as the Brighton and Hove Child Development Centre. The successful applicant can choose to join the daytime and weekend rota for this service, with training provided if required.

Mid Sussex Child Development Centre is part of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust which includes three other child development centers (Brighton, Chichester, and Crawley). The medical teams from the four Child Development Centre's meet monthly to support professional development.

Qualifications and/or Professional Registration

Essential

Recognised Basic Medical Degree MRCPCH or equivalent Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice Certificate of Completion of Training in Paediatrics or equivalent and Inclusion on the Paediatric Specialist Register (or within 6 months at time of interview) Recognised Child Protection Training (higher level)

Desirable

Relevant Higher Degree (eg MSc in Community Child Health, MD, PhD)

Experience

Essential

At least two years of Higher Specialty Training in Community Child Health/ Paediatric Neurodisability/ Neurology or equivalent experience Experience in the field of safeguarding / child protection Experience of carrying out an audit project Commitment to and experience of under graduate and postgraduate learning and teaching

Desirable

Experience in paediatric sexual abuse examination Experience of involvement in a research project and publication or published audit project
