A&P Group, Falmouth – Pumproom Operative

Home to one of the world's largest natural deep-water harbours, A&P Falmouth's facility is one of the largest ship-repair complexes in the UK.

We are looking for a Pumproom Operative to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. Due to dry docking operations being tidal dependent, the position requires candidates that are able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays when required.

A&P Falmouth is one of the largest ship-repair facilities in the UK, we provide a complete range of marine repair services thanks to our on-site engineering, electrical, paint and fabrication workshops.

What you will do:

You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our pumproom systems, in relation to flooding and pumping down the dry docks, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards are met.

  • Operate and monitor pumproom equipment including pumps, valves and related systems
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance to ensure all equipment is in good working condition
  • Troubleshoot and resolve and issues with pumproom systems promptly in conjunction with other relevant teams
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient workflow and resolve operational issues

What we are looking for:

  • A mechanical/engineering background and/or experience as a Pumproom Operative or similar
  • Basic understanding of pumproom systems and components- additional training can be provided
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to health and safety
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
