About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Data Analyst to support the demands on data analysis and reporting. This post will be part of the new Student Data Quality team and will have a focus on admissions, access and participation activities. The role holder will be the point of contact for colleagues working in these areas.

As a Data Analyst, you will need to work closely with colleagues in Student and Registry Services (SRS) and across Faculties and other professional services, especially the Information Services Division (ISD), to respond to requests and identify issues. You will collate, analyse and report on data to propose solutions for effective decision making. You will develop and work with colleagues in Planning and ISD to release reports, largely in PowerBI. The specialist skills you will bring to the role relate to:

Data management - You comprehend data governance and how it works in relation to other organisational governance structures. You can participate in, or deliver the assurance of, a service because you have a breadth of knowledge and experience relating to data management. Data analysis and data visualisation - You can use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling stories that meet stakeholder concerns and are relevant to business goals and can be acted upon. Creative and logical thinking - You can identify and trace the root cause of issues as they are presented in data collection processes and downstream services as they occur. You can recommend actions and identify trends to resolve issues.

About you

The successful applicant will have significant experience contributing complicated data analysis using standard tools such as Excel and SQL across multiple datasets ( space, finance, HR, student, CRM) in an education setting; this will be combined with experience in data mapping ( Data Factory), presenting data, and creating reports in PowerBI.

You will have clear verbal and written communication skills, including accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation. You will also have excellent planning, organisational and decision-making skills, with the ability to coordinate a range of simultaneous tasks or activities, exercise initiative and problem-solve effectively. Previous experience of working in a UK higher education institution in a related role would be advantageous.
