Job summary

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the delivery of a designated specialist service within the Audiology structure (Hearing Therapy, Hearing Aid Centre, Outreach Team, Diagnostics, Paediatrics, and auditory Implants). The post holder will be highly experienced post-graduate qualified Audiologist, Clinical Scientist (Audiology) or Hearing Therapist and will perform work in the designated team involving a significant degree or responsibility and autonomy, including activities which are complex and non-routine.

The post holder will be accountable to the identified Audiology Service Manager/Professional Manager and will ensure that a consistently high quality, complex and sophisticated clinical service is provided, meeting the highest national and international standards.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for manging a highly specialised and complex clinical caseload of planned and ad hoc patients with considerable autonomy but under the general guidance of relevant Audiology service lead. This will include of the following

o Routine complex assessment of hearing, balance and tinnitus disorders and interpretation of tests Comprehensive rehabilitation techniques, including counselling distressed patients/carers about hearing loss and associated Assessing suitability for hearing aids/cochlear implants and carrying out appropriate Monitoring benefits from intervention and developing appropriate care pathways.

To be responsible for both verbal and written communication of the assessment and/or intervention outcome to the patients, patients or patient's carer an to the wider multi-disciplinary team and external agencies.

To be responsible for development, implementation and consistent use of clinical protocols in line with current evidence-based practice and to monitor staff's adherence to protocols.

To co -ordinate and participate in training schemes within the service. To train Audiologists and Hearing Therapists at the same level and those at lower bands and supports a culture of education and research within the service.

Ensure adherence to clinical governance processes within the service

To be responsible for the reporting and identifying solutions for health and safety issues within the designated service.

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

oBsc in Clinical Audiology/ Hearing Therapy or equivalent level of knowledge/ expertise in field. CAC or equivalent post graduate experience oRegistered to practice as an Audiologist/ Clinical Scientist/ Hearing Therapist with either Health and care Professions Council (HCPC) or Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) oSignificant post-graduate experience in relevant clinical area oEvidence of post graduate CPD oApplied theoretical knowledge of the relevant assessment and therapeutic/ rehabilitative procedures for the management of audiological or vestibular conditions in adults. oKnowledge of the impact of co-morbidities such as global delay or neurological conditions in the management of adults

Desirable

oMSc in Clinical Audiology/ Hearing Therapy or equivalent oPost graduate management. oMembership of BSA/BAA

Experience

oDemonstrable experience in the relevant clinical area and evidence of clinical competency with a complex patient caseload oSpecialist knowledge of routine and non-routine diagnostic/ therapeutic audiological assessment procedures, their interpretation, and their implications for patient management oExperience in formulating comprehensive management plans based on case history information and diagnostic test results where management decisions may or may not be straightforward. oEvidence of participation in clinical audit, research, and/ or presentation at scientific meetings oExperience of working with hearing impaired patients/ parents/ carers and associated professionals
