Financial Controller

Are you keen to work somewhere that’s stimulating and friendly, with loads of opportunities for growth and plenty of freedom to make a real impact? This could be the place for you
We are looking for a Financial Controller here at INSHUR; we are based in sunny Brighton (sea, chips and seagulls included) and our company embraces a hybrid working model, allowing you to thrive in both collaborative office settings and the comfort of your own home. You’ll have the opportunity to work remotely while also connecting with your colleagues at our Brighton office at least once a week, fostering a dynamic and supportive environment.
You’ll be working on re-inventing insurance in exciting markets across multiple territories including the UK, US and the Netherlands, and new European countries as we expand.
Supported by (and reporting to) the Group Financial Controller, you'll be joining a friendly team of 12 who believe in the mission of using technology and automation to establish processes and systems to improve the accuracy of the accounting and reporting functions.
What you'll do
As our Financial Controller you will be responsible for managing all accounting operations and preparation of financial statements of our European entities in accordance with GAAP. Your responsibilities include:
- Leading all aspects of accounting and financial reporting and the monthly close process with full responsibility for timeliness and accuracy
- Leading the preparation of accurate and high-quality financial reports in compliance with US GAAP, bank/regulatory reporting, and management reporting and analysis.
- Having direct responsibility for accounting of complex accounting and disclosure areas, such as consolidation, revenue recognition, reserves, accruals, and other disclosures
- Managing the UK external statutory audit
- Assisting with the Inshur Holdings Group external audit
- Managing the UK VAT process
- Researching and analysing technical accounting issues as needed
- Supervising a team within the Finance group.
- Designing, implementing and maintaining effective internal controls
- Identifying and remediating internal control weaknesses
We don’t have a definite checklist of skills - our hiring process is much more about aptitude and passion than ticking boxes. So don’t worry if you’ve not used a particular tool or checked off all the listed skills and experience.
That said, below is a guideline of skills that we think would make you successful in this role.
We'd love to hear from you if you:
- Have 8 - 10 years plus of overall combined accounting experience
- Have an Accounting Degree
- ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent
- Insurance industry knowledge and startup company experience preferred
- Public accounting experience is a huge plus
- Experience integrating acquired companies into existing accounting practices
Your colleagues say you:
- Have the ability to be hands-on as well as delegate, train, and develop a team.
- Strong communicator and collaborate well with others
- Must be well-organised and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple concurrent priorities and objectives
- Enjoy continuously improving processes to automate accounting operations and internal controls
What we offer
We provide a friendly and stimulating environment for everyone to grow, learn and thrive in. We operate in a hybrid of remote and office-based work and we encourage a flexible way of working to adapt to personal circumstances and individual and business needs.
We offer all our employees stock options and we will pay into your pension monthly. We've also built a benefits package that invests in our people’s long-term personal and professional growth and wellbeing. Here’s a sample of what this includes:
- 30 days of holiday annually in addition to bank holidays
- Private healthcare scheme for you and your family
- Life Insurance
- Up to 13 weeks of parental leave at full pay, regardless of your gender
- Workplace Nursery scheme
- Flexible working hours
- Annual personal training allowance and regular learning opportunities
- Monthly flexible wellbeing allowance to help you stay healthy and productive
- Access to Employee Assistance Program
- Office massages
It goes without saying that we provide everyone with a laptop, monitor, top of the range kit, and any software you need.
