We are seeking applications for Consultant posts in Stroke Medicine. You will join an enthusiastic and cohesive team of 8 Stroke consultants to deliver Hyperacute, Acute and Stroke Rehabilitation in our Hospital. You will be on a 1 in 7 Stroke on call rota for nights and weekends for this post. We are seeking a physician at Consultant or ST7 level with a background in any of the following specialities: Stroke, Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, Acute medicine, or an allied specialty with previous experience in Stroke medicine. Our Stroke unit is based in a major University teaching hospital with 800 inpatient beds. we have tertiary Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Renal services on site. Our Stroke service delivers thrombolysis 24/7- and 7-day TIA clinics. We currently admit 1000 confirmed stroke patients a year. We have an established thrombectomy pathway to University Hospital of North Midlands. We have invested in new technologies like AI and will be bringing CT perfusion into service this year. We have weekly Neuroradiology meetings for continued service development.

We have a newly designed purpose built 39 bedded unit on our hospital site to accommodate all new Hyperacute and Acute Stroke patients. The new unit is directly adjacent to our new ED department which has full scanning facilities.

Main duties of the job

To act as a Consultant Physician providing, with colleagues, a safe and effective 7 day Hyper-acute and acute stroke service and a daily TIA service, To work with rehabilitation and community services to ensure timely and safe transfer of care, To contribute to audit, the Stroke Data-base and performance review to ensure the service continues to meet the requirements of the National Stroke Strategy, Regional Stroke Specification and SSNAP, To contribute to stroke service teaching and training, To contribute to under-graduate teaching, To act as Consultant Physician managing stroke rehabilitation in-patient and out-patients at West Park Hospital ensuring that patients have the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential and live independently in the community wherever possible, To provide medical input as required to the Early Supported Discharge Team and Community Stroke Coordinators (this is usually provided by the Consultant supporting Stroke Rehabilitation beds as part of the rotation across the pathway).

Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview MRCP or equivalent any higher training required that is essential in order to fulfil the role
