Growing and Horticulture Programme Lead

Duties & Responsibilities:
The Growing & Horticulture Programme Lead will lead a team of staff and volunteers, planning and managing the day-to-day delivery of the programme while ensuring the garden spaces remain sustainable and add to the beauty of the environment we work in.
In order to evidence the quality of our provision and the progress of participants, there is an element of responsibility for record keeping in this role.
At Ashfield Gardens this role:
-Is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation of the garden element of that social farm/garden.
-Leads a staff team in supporting adults with varying abilities to achieve their own individual target outcomes.
-Manages a volunteer team to develop the gardens.
-Works with the Garden Manager to achieve the aims of the social farm/garden.
-Works with other Green Care Practitioners locally and nationally to share best practice, ensure quality and approach is consistent across all our communities.
-Contributes expertise to the continual improvement of our Growing and Horticulture programme in meeting the individual outcomes of the people we support.
-Requires the post-holder to work flexibly and creatively to respond to the needs of people we support.
-Will deputise for the Garden Manager as required.
-Will facilitate the delivery and accreditation of AQA structured courses for those who choose to follow this route.
-Will be a leader eager to enable to Trust to deliver its Green Care commitments described above.
Key Responsibilities:
-To lead, develop and motivate a team of staff and volunteers in delivering the strategic aims of the social farm/garden.
-The envisaged growth of the project will result in a need for additional staff and the Green Care Practitioner will be responsible for recruiting to, coordinating roles and responsibilities, undertaking supervisions and appraisals in accordance with company policy.
-To assist with the planning, preparation, and delivery of AQA accredited structured programme of Green Care activities, which are inclusive of individual goals and support needs.
-To review the progress and development of each individual learner, gather evidence to demonstrate progression, whilst recognising achievements and identifying new/individual goals and objectives.
- To design and implement a range of Green Care activities, which can be delivered to the people we support.
- To lead in the planning, development and work undertaken in areas including: Facilitating arts & crafts sessions. Facilitating baking classes. Seed to Table principles – cookery to preserve making. Top fruit and soft fruit orchards. Field scale vegetable production. Protected cropping areas. Creation and maintenance of habitats to attract and protect wildlife.
- To manage the horticultural land in accordance with organic principles.
- To fulfil animal husbandry duties as necessary, as and when required.
- To ensure all team members work in accordance with policy, procedures, practices, and controls (identification and implementation place any that are necessary for the gardens).
- To ensure that the correct and appropriate lines of communication are followed in relation to recording and reporting, having particular regard for the Trust’s health and safety requirements.
- To undertake other such tasks as required individually, or with others to develop and maintain the high quality of service required to fulfil the vision of the social farm/garden, including for example by actively participating in meetings and in relevant training and organising the workshop to support festivals.
- To support with the marketing and promotion of the service to local authorities, health care agencies, private payers and community-based organisations.
- To keep all appropriate records and information in an orderly manner and on a timely basis.
- To provide any information and documentation required and prepare regular reports on the workshop activities to help ensure there is accurate and timely information available about the provision.
- To engage in, help plan and deliver Community events such as cultural celebrations, festivals, meals and public open days.
- Understanding and/or experience of working with people with a variety of care and support needs and of all abilities, and their families.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- An understanding of the needs of the local community.
- Good level of IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Previous experience leading and managing an effective team.
-Evidence of a good working knowledge of therapeutic horticulture.
- Experience/skills in alternative communication.
- Experience/skills in methods e.g. Makaton, Photo symbols or Widgets.
- Self-motivated, dynamic, and able to work with a high level of autonomy and without closed supervision.
- Good organisational skills and proven ability to manage own time and workload.
- Kind and approachable with excellent listening skills, tact, and keenness to offer support.
- Passionate about developing and delivering a progressive service that supports people to develop via individual progression pathways; is caring and adaptable,
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Willingness to lone work when required (e.g. watering plants, preparing sessions)Willingness to use Trust vehicles to transport others e.g. minibus, when required
Education:
Essential
- A recognised qualification in either Horticulture and/or Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent, or a willingness and ability to achieve both within an agreed period.
-Full and valid driving licence and access to a vehicle during working time.
