Job overview

Newham Hospital is looking for a talented and motivated clinical leader to join the hospital executive board as divisional director for women’s and children’s services to help us provide excellent clinical care and improve the health of the local population.

The London Borough of Newham in East London has a young population which is one of the most diverse and rapidly growing in London. Its hospital is located centrally in the borough and will play a critical role in the leadership of population health management. Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time for Newham with the investment in its infrastructure opening a new adult critical care unit and a new ward in the spring of 2024. The hospital is working with system colleagues to develop a Women’s Health Hub which will support our women in the community. Newham has a state-of-the-art children’s unit and is the busiest maternity unit (in terms of births) in Barts Health. Its maternity services continue to improve and received positive feedback from the Maternity Support Programme. First class women’s and children’s services in the hospital are essential to meet the needs of the local population and we have ambitious plans to achieve this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Divisional Director role is a key clinical leader and member of our hospital executive board reporting directly to the hospital chief executive. The role is critical to the delivery of our ambitions for the hospital and the group. It is expected that the successful candidate will be a highly visible individual able to influence across the wider organisation at all levels of seniority. Our teams and patients are at the centre of what we do and therefore values based compassionate leadership are a must.

The role is for a fixed term period of 3 years and is 4-6 PAs/week (B9 0.4-0.6 wte if non-medical) with a responsibility allowance if on a consultant contract.
