Overview

We are seeking up to two new Members to the Board of Historic Environment Scotland

Our historic environment is a national asset: it creates jobs, enriches our communities, and helps to tell Scotland’s story to the world. It’s a vital part of our transition to net zero and helps local places to thrive. As a Board Member of the lead public body in the heritage sector, you will play an important role in helping to enhance the significant benefits that our nation’s heritage creates, while ensuring the historic environment is at the centre of national life.

We play a lead role in securing the delivery of the Strategy for Scotland’s Historic Environment – “”, We are responsible for protecting and promoting some of the nation’s fabulous heritage assets, like Edinburgh Castle. We also look after some of Scotland’s outstanding collections and archives. But Historic Environment Scotland does so much more – as a regulator, as a grant provider, as a research organisation and as an expert heritage adviser across a wide range of subjects.

Priority Criteria

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in the following areas:

Time Commitment and Remuneration

Members receive a fee of £228 per day for a time commitment of up to two days per month. Reasonable travel and subsistence, childcare and carer receipted expenses will be reimbursed. Full details are explained in the applicant information pack.
