Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Derby (DE23)

Contract: 5 mornings a week

Start Date: September

Connex Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team at a school in Derby (DE23). The successful candidate will primarily work with a child who has Autism and Downs Syndrome, providing essential support to enhance their learning and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the educational and social development of the child with Autism and Downs Syndrome.
  • Implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Plans.
  • Assist with the integration and inclusion of the child within the classroom and school environment.
  • Provide feedback to the class teacher on the child’s progress and any issues arising.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly Autism and Downs Syndrome.
  • PECs training or previous experience with PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System).
  • A positive and nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning.
  • Ability to engage and motivate children to reach their full potential.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or childcare.
  • Training in behaviour management or relevant therapeutic interventions.
  • Experience in supporting children with additional sensory needs.

Essential:

  • Current enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
