North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Anaesthetics at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department and will participate in the provision of services to the population of North Cumbria. Main duties of the job

For daytime work the successful applicant will be encouraged to work across a range of anaesthetic areas and develop areas of interest. There will be the expectation of working at both hospital sites to encourage greater experience.

The successful candidate will be experienced and highly motivated. They will be expected to participate fully within departmental activities, including teaching and audit. The job plan will remain flexible to allow for skills in all anaesthetic specialities to be maintained.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential

Valid Registration with the General Medical Council. Fellow of Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent Completed Higher Specialist Training in Anaesthetics or evidence of equivalent competency (approved by PMETB/GMC). On the Specialist Register for the above, or be within 6 months of being admitted to the Register at the time of interview. Evidence of day time and/or on call experience in ICU and maternity during the last 2 years, either at ST6-7 or consultant level.

Desirable

Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree. Other relevant postgraduate qualification. Instructor status in either ATLS/APLS/ALS Evidence of recent and on-going CPD in intensive care

Skills/Knowledge
Essential

Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff Knowledge of Audit process & Clinical Governance Ability to organise workload efficiently A special interest to complement that of the existing post-holders A commitment to, and experience of teaching

Qualifications in teaching/instructing. Experience of development of teaching resources.

High level of clinical experience and competence in a wide variety of fields of anaesthesia
