Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Royal National Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital & Eastman Dental Hospital for a Locum Appointment for Service as a Specialty Registrar in Restorative Dentistry. This is a fixed term position for one year and will provide the postholder with an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the management of patient with complex restorative dentistry needs. The Eastman is world renowned for excellence in clinical care, teaching and research and you will be part of a team that are dedicated to upholding these values. You will have the opportunity to participate in the management of patients requiring multi-disciplinary care including head and neck oncology, hypodontia, and craniofacial conditions

Main duties of the job

This job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week all of which will be carried out on the Eastman Site with the exception of outreach clinics and does not include on-call commitments.

The key focus will be: o Participation in Consultant led new patient clinics where a range of patients referred by general dental practitioners and other providers are seen and a diagnosis and treatment plan Treatment of patients involving a range of care with varying complexity including multidisciplinary involvement in an outpatient setting under local anaesthesia, sedation and general Emergency management of patients undergoing treatment at the Attendance at joint clinics and provision of care to patients taken from these Attendance at outreach Planning and restorative management of patients diagnosed with head and neck cancero Management of patients with other acquired and congenital disorderso Participate in audit at both departmental and hospital Participate in training of Dental Care Professionals when and if appropriate.

The appointees may occasionally have to perform duties in unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultants.

The Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals opened on Huntley Street in October 2019. The hospital treats conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat and mouth including dental, hearing, speech and balance services.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

BDS or Equivalent Full registration with the GDC Postgraduate qualification in a Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics (MSc or MClinDent level or equivalent) or pending

Desirable

MFDS, MJDF or equivalent

Experience

Essential

Experience in the management of complex Restorative procedures Clinical experience in all aspects of restorative dentistry

Desirable

Minimum of 4 years clinical experience Experience of specialist practice Experience of clinical teaching, particularly at postgraduate and specialist levels. Competence at surgical restorative treatment

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Use of evidence based practice; can demonstrate thorough knowledge of the relevant literature.

Desirable

Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles of clinical audit clinical governance; undertaken clinical audit projects previously Knowledge at Masters' degree level or under specialist postgraduate training in a Restorative monospeciality Research in related field Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals
