We have a range of posts to suit radiologists at any stage of their career. We are particularly interested in colleagues with the following sub-speciality interests - Gastro-intestinal, Head and Neck, Nuclear Medicine / PET-CT, Paediatric, Thoracic and Gynaecological imaging although we can accommodate all other sub-specialty interests as well.

We can offer further sub-speciality training locally or the opportunity to visit/work at other centres whilst working here. We will support your academic interests and you will have a generous study leave allowance and budget to match.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will collaborate with existing colleagues to deliver and enhance a comprehensive Radiology service supporting the imaging requirements of the Trust and primary care services in the county. The appointees will be part of a wider team of consultant radiologists who provide sub-specialty and general radiological services across the Trust. The post holders will be encouraged to have a sub-specialty interest and help shape the services in their respective fields of expertise. If required, further speciality training can be provided on-site or by attendance at other centres.

All sub-speciality interests are welcome especially Gastro-intestinal, Head and Neck, Nuclear Medicine, Paediatric, Thoracic, Breast, Gynaecological Imaging etc. The post-holder will be encouraged to develop new services including interventional procedures pertaining to their area of interest.

Job description

Job responsibilities

All duties of a Consultant Radiologist in line with departmental rota. In addition to reporting and performing procedures, the successful applicants will be expected to attend multidisciplinary team meetings in a sub-specialty of their interest and participate in the general radiology on-call rota. Office space with workstations and secretarial support will be provided. Participation in the teaching and training of radiology registrars, radiographers and medical students is encouraged.

All consultants undergo yearly job planning review and appraisal organised by the Trust. Revalidation is in accordance with GMC regulations. The post starts as a 10PA per week contract including MDT, on-call and SPA. The maximum PAs usually allowed is 12. Basic SPA allocation is with additional SPA time offered for additional roles undertaken.

Candidates must hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or an equivalent qualification and must either be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of possession of a CCT/CESR at the time of interview.

All consultants are encouraged to attend the monthly consultants meeting, regular REALMs meetings and the bimonthly Medical Staff Committee meetings. Within the department there are subspecialty staff meetings. All consultants participate in relevant MDT meetings as part of their timetabled activity.

Consultants are expected to provide cover for colleagues who are absent on leave. The number of consultants who are on leave at any one time is governed by local Directorate policy and six weeks notice of leave is expected.

The successful candidate will be contractually accountable to Northampton General Hospital Trust for the provision of services. The appointee will be managerially responsible to the Chief Executive through the Medical Director and Clinical Director.

The appointee will be expected to participate in managerial and administrative work and should be aware of the broader context within the NHS in which consultants operate.

Clinical Skills/Experience

Evidence of extensive training in Cross Sectional Radiology

Post graduate experience and familiarity of UK NHS hospital system

Management Skills
