The Covid-19pandemic has put the NHS under unprecedented pressure and we have a role in supportingthe NHS to relieve that burden. To thisend, we are expanding our ophthalmology service in Wiltshire and looking for experiencedsurgeons to support the growth and development of this service.

Main duties of the job

We are searching for an ophthalmologist to work with us in Westbury, Wiltshire, undertaking clinics and cataract surgery on Mondays for two to eight sessions per month on Mondays, depending on your availability and patient numbers. This role will be offered on a Practicing Privileges basis.

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

Clinical

Ensure a highstandard of clinical care in cataract surgery. Drive best practice in patient care,efficiency and clinical outcomes ensuring clinical policies and operatingpractices are updated in response to developments in clinical practice orservice changes Be responsible for the patients welfare andcomfort. Ensure the patient understands their optionson course of treatment and is provided with relevant information to allow informedchoice. Explain procedures to the patient beforetreatment commences. Monitor and audit quality clinical practice,including the delivery of random audit and direct observation of peers. Look for opportunities for innovation andservice improvements to improve patient care and standards of patient safety Foster a learning environment where all staffevaluate the quality of patient care, feel able to raise concerns, and where learningis shared. Maintain timely and accurate records.

Governance and Risk Management

Ensure ophthalmology services meet thehighest standards of clinical excellence, and that risks are identified andappropriately managed. Report and address any complaints, adverseevents or other issues and ensure any learning is shared across theorganisation. Develop and maintain safe systems of work.

Qualifications

Full GMC registration with a licence to practice FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification. On or eligible to join GMC Specialist Register CCT in Ophthalmology (or equivalent training) Evidence of continued professional development

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Able to lead and co-ordinate a multidisciplinary clinical team Excellent interpersonal and communications skills High standard of written and spoken English.
