Job summary

An exciting opportunity hasarisen for a Dispenser to join Beacon Medical group, based at our Wotter Branchdispensary.

This successful applicant must be driven and able towork on their own. The role is to dispense safely to all our Wotter based patients,ensure that drugs and medicines are prepared efficiently and safely. Alongsidethis the candidate will provide assistance to the practice pharmacy team conductingclinical audits and support with medication related projects.

The role also works to ensure good stock control withsensible ordering with a twice a year stock take. The role works alongside the widerpractice to ensure personal administered items are stocked to a suitable level.

Monday 8-3pm ( core open hours) hours Audit and ordering work lone working on site

Tuesday day off

Main duties of the job

The role is variedand will keep any candidate interested.

The role is to project a positive and friendlyimage to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in aprofessional, courteous, and efficient way.To prepare and dispense prescriptions and miscellaneous over-the-countermedicines/appliances and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking ofthe dispensary. Provide effective advice to patients relating to medications, lifestyle,and ailments within the scope of your capability. Be responsible for your own continuing self-development,undertaking training as appropriate

Job responsibilities

KeyResponsibilities:

To project apositive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and dealwith queries in a professional, courteous, and efficient way.

To prepareand dispense prescriptions and miscellaneous over-the-countermedicines/appliances and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking ofthe dispensary.

To provideeffective advice to patients relating to medications, lifestyle, and ailmentswithin the scope of your capability.

Dispensing

Checking andDispensing medications as per prescription

Dispensingacute prescriptions

Updatingpatients repeat screens on doctors instructions

Dispensingand record private prescriptions and collect specified charges

Dispensing blacklistedprescriptions, pricing and recording them.

Maintaining full and accuraterecords of all dispensing transactions

Fully observe legal requirementrelevant to dispensing Practice, including HA regulations and controlled drugs

Liaise with GP for review of medication.

Issuing medication alternativesas necessary.

Clinical

Provide assistance to thePractice Pharmacist to conduct clinical audits.

Provide assistance to theclinical team on medication related projects.

Prescriptions

Handing outprescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate

Ensuring thatcorrect and up to date fees for prescription cost are displayed and accurateaccording to current legislation.

Advising onpayment methods and alternatives

Collection ofprescription charges/checking patient exemption statements

Collectingprivate charges for blacklisted medications, vaccines and holidayprophylactic medication.

Sorting,stamping and endorsing prescriptions.

Generatingprescriptions and labelling drugs correctly with patient details and medicationdetails.

Ensuringprescriptions are securely stored ready for processing for the prescriptionpricing authority.

Dealing withproblems and enquiries

To run auditsas required by the practice.

Action monthly resubmission prescriptions fromPPD and return.

Count scriptsdaily from dispensary and record in figures form for the finance team to submitat the end of month.

Stock Control

Operation of efficient stockcontrol appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective ofensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage

Relevant stock ordered inpreparation for appointments.

Liaise with the suppliersregarding missed deliveries.

To ensuremaximum profit is maintained and losses are kept to a minimum.

Recording allPersonally Administered items for VAT

Orderingappropriate quantities of goods via the wholesalers computer link

To maintaincost effective supply supplies of drugs that are purchased from the wholesaler

Checkinggoods as and when they are delivered against invoices

Returningincorrect goods to the wholesalers within agreed time limits

Ensuring that drugs are receivedand stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions

Ensuring that refrigerated itemsare stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperaturecontrol record/logbook

Removing outof date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas anddestroying them appropriately and record out of date medications quarterly.

To devise and explain to eachdispenser the mechanisms for ordering from the wholesaler.

Disposal ofreturned unused medicines in line with BMG Policy and guidelines.

Arrange andrecord CD destruction from stock.

Facilities

Responsiblefor ordering personally administered items across all sites includingmiscellaneous items and equipment.

Implementregular stock at Wotter site.

Ensuring thedispensary area remains clean and tidy.

Correct useof Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Use andmonitoring of the correct use of standard operating procedures

Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a waythat manages those risks across clinical and patient process

Monitoringpractice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuringthat provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc are sufficient to ensurea good clinical working environment.

Maintain a record for checking equipment maintenance and monitoring,liaising with appropriate staff as necessary.

To ensure that drug safety alerts are acted upon and co-ordinate with thepharmacy team to record them.

Ensure building security- have a thorough knowledge of doors/ windows/alarm.

Using personal security systems within the workplace according topractice guidelines

Ensure the safety of all who enter the dispensary

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness andregulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practiceguidelines

Assist, when necessary, with training of colleagues across BMG
