Job overview

Applicants are invited for a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Thoracic imaging. The successful candidate will have dedicated sub-specialist training in Thoracic imaging and form part of an expanding team of Consultant Radiologists working in a regional teaching hospital. 

We are looking for an outstanding colleague wishing to actively support the Imaging department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (based at Brighton) and contribute to the expanding workload. There are many opportunities provided by working in an Acute Teaching Hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and research and high-quality patient experience.

Successful applicants will have good cross-sectional skills in body and emergency imaging and will contribute to a 1:15 general on-call rota (there are separate rotas for interventional, paediatric and neuroradiology). 

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

General elective and acute (hot) reporting General ultrasound General screening Sub-speciality thoracic reporting CT lung biopsies Supervision of radiology trainees Participation in MDMs Participation in general radiologist on-call service Skills in EUS and cardiac imaging are desirable but not essential for the post

On Call Commitment: is expected as 1:15

The successful candidate will work between both Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital, to provide our patients with an exceptional radiology service.

Person specification

Experience/Qualifications

Essential criteria

•Basic medical degreeMBBS or equivalent •FRCR or appropriate specialist qualification •Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice •CCT in Radiology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) •Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC

Desirable criteria

Higher Degree •Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes, other degrees eg BSc, MSc, MS

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria

•Broad experience of general acute diagnostic imaging (including trauma CT) and general outpatient imaging •Experience of sub-speciality chest reporting •Experience of running MDMs •Experience of US guided IR procedures including drain insertion and biopsies •Understanding of clinical risk management •Good cross-sectional skills in body and emergency imaging. •An ability to communicate well with patients and staff •Applicant will have a specialist interest in thoracic imaging.
