Situated on the edge of the Home Park on the Windsor Estate, Windsor Farm Shop is just a short distance away from the beautiful scenery of Windsor Great Park and the historic surroundings of Windsor Castle. We are renowned for our butchery and proud to be a National Craft Butcher which recognises independent artisans and skilled specialists in butchery.
Purpose of role: To deliver an exceptional product for our customers and maintain the highest standards of presentation and food hygiene. The main focus of this role is the breakdown of species (mainly beef) but will be expected to be flexible to provide support across the butchery operation.
Main Accountabilities:
- Breakdown of species from carcass to retail cuts to maximise cuts and minimise waste;
- Cut and prepare meat for the counter, de-boning, making sausages etc.
- Ensure counters are fully stocked throughout the day and that stock is rotated and labelled correctly;
- Ensure fridges are cleaned, stock is rotated and fridges are ready for deliveries;
- Check temperature of deliveries;
- Undertake spot checks are carried out of product intake;
- Provide the highest standards of customer service;
- Assist with the costing of produce from the Royal Farms;
- Ensure the completion of stock transfer and wastage sheets;
- Support the promotion of new products and the Farm Shop’s marketing initiatives;
- Assist in undertaking accurate stock takes;
- Maintain stock knowledge to offer advice to customers and maximise sales opportunities;
- Conduct all duties in a professional and safe manner with due reference to relevant risk assessments and safe systems of work. Ensure all health and safety checklists are completed in line with CE policies and procedures;
- Contribute to improvements in customer service and the operation in general;
- Ensure cleaning is undertaken as per the daily HACCP cleaning sheets and that records are kept up-to-date according to guidelines;
- Ensure the Additives and Preservative records are followed and records are kept up-to-date;
- Report any maintenance issues and monitor progress until they are resolved;
- Be aware of emergency and evacuation procedures and act accordingly should an emergency occur;
- Undertake any other duties necessary to ensure delivery of customer service across Windsor Farm Shop operations.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
- Proven butchery experience with advanced knowledge of meat preparation techniques and cuts;
- Experience of working in a busy, front line customer service environment;
- A proven track record in an environment where the customer comes first is essential;
- Level 2 in Butchery or equivalent experience;
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations;
- Demonstrable skills in delivering a high-quality product;
- Demonstrable knife skills and butchering techniques;
- Familiar with the principles of stock control and rotation;
- A good communicator, confident, friendly, approachable with the ability to engage with a wide variety of people;
- Calm and assertive;
- Be willing to have a flexible and versatile approach to provide support wherever and whenever needed;
- Ability to work on own initiative;
- Ability to effectively problem solve;
- Team player;
- Organised with meticulous attention to detail;
- Hold and maintain basic and intermediate food and hygiene certificates;
- Ability to use hand tools, stand or walk for extended periods, lift heavy items, and work in cold environments;
- Basic IT skills.
