Newton Abbot, United Kingdom Long-term Teachers Ltd Full time
  • Full time
  • Term time only
  • Starting at £90 per day

Long-Term Teachers support a fantastic, innovative and supportive special school who are committed to supporting students in regulating their emotions and understanding their feelings, alongside their academic studies. Our client regularly need dynamic and passionate Wellbeing Mentors to join their team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of their students.

As a provision for students with complex needs, including those who have experienced trauma, the majority of the students are identified as having social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Therefore, you must be incredibly empathetic, patient as well as able to manage challenging behaviour

You will be working within small groups, providing essential support to the students and class teacher during lessons. You will facilitate the preparation of lesson materials, making sure the learning environment is safe and enjoyable and may support small group or 1:1 interventions where applicable, to help bridge the gap in knowledge.

What it’s like to work at this school:

  • Small groups/class sizes
  • Students receive tailor made education packages
  • Comprehensive training programmes
  • Frequent continued professional development opportunities
  • Additional opportunities including Duke of Edinburgh, vocational subjects, Forest school and careers guidance
  • Work closely with a supportive team, including parents/carers to ensure the child is at the centre of all the work that you do
  • Bespoke interventions available for students
  • Purpose built provision to suit the needs of the students

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with children, preferably those with SEN. However, previous experience in care or support work makes for an excellent transition into this role. You must be able to drive and have access to your own vehicle. If you prove to be an excellent addition to the team, there may be opportunities to make this a permanent appointment.

You will be required to work Monday - Friday during term-time only. You will be well supported from the outset and will be making a real difference to the lives of young people.
