We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Pharmacist to join our modern purpose-built facilities at Colchester Hospital. This key position will allow you as a committed and self-motivated Pharmacist to lead our Pharmacy services to surgical patients at Colchester Hospital.

You will be predominantly ward-based and will be a fully established member of the multi-disciplinary team; you will be pivotal in developing our clinical service within the speciality and will have responsibility for leading the Pharmacy team working on the surgical wards.

Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing our staff to reach their full potential. We provide pharmacy forums, tutorials and weekly ICS/ESNEFT delivered educational workshops. We support personal development plans, smart objective setting and opportunities for study.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

About our Pharmacy Service

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of medicines within Surgery practice; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.

Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to Surgical patients in line with the pharmacy Key Performance Indicators and agreed clinical standards.

Provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within Surgery.

Take a proactive role in the ongoing mentoring and coaching of junior doctor colleagues with regard to safe prescribing, medicines reconciliation and the electronic discharge process.

Develop clinical pharmacy input into Surgical Services and provide departmental leadership into this speciality.

Work collaboratively with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Surgery at the Ipswich site; providing mutual support and ensuring as consistent a cross-site service as practically possible.

Qualifications

Essential

Masters Degree in Pharmacy plus Pre-registration training or equivalent GPhC registered Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or clinical equivalent

Previous extensive hospital experience inclusive of Clinical Pharmacy practice Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working Handling of high risk medicines Previous experience of educating and training other staff

Previous experience of working with Surgical patients

Medicines Management Clinical knowledge of issues relevant to surgical patients gained through training & experience Good all-round clinical knowledge in other areas and practical skills
