Job summary

The Older People and Frailty division are seeking a passionate Specialty Doctor to work within the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) based in Spalding. The post holder will provide a comprehensive community psychiatric service for those over the age of 65 with dementia and functional psychiatric disorders including patients with early onset dementia.

This is a full-time post at 10 programmed activities per week and the post holder will work alongside other professionals within the Team including the CMHT Service Manager, the Clinical Lead, Consultant Psychiatrist, Practitioners, and administrative staff. There are currently no trainee doctors attached to this post. The team's Consultant Psychiatrist will also act as the supervisor to the post.

The Older Adult Community Mental Health Teams (OA CMHTs) provide individualised assessment and recovery-based interventions and support. This support is for complex mental health related needs and for co morbid emotional disorders and behaviours that challenge in people experiencing dementia.

The team offers support at service user homes and in the community and link and work with a wide range of other services to ensure the provision of comprehensive and joined up care. This includes social and continuing healthcare providers as well as third sector and voluntary services.

Main duties of the job

Provide support and advice to CMHT covered by the Consultants catchment area which includes Spalding and part of Stamford CMHT

Provide support and advice Liaison/Intermediate care referrals from the Johnson Community Hospitals which are picked up in the first instance by the liaison nurses.

Conduct outpatient clinics, both on a regular basis and ad hoc as required.

Home visits throughout the geographical area, as required depending on the needs of the service

Attend CPA/S117 reviews for patients under the care of Consultant.

Attend CMHT meetings once a week where new referrals are discussed and management plans are discussed as a part of wider MDT. In line with New Ways of Working the trust is supporting model of nurse led clinic for dementia diagnosis.

Take an active part in medical and clinical audit within the service.

Post holder will be also working closely with Stamford Community Mental health Team as 2 GP surgery practices from Stamford are covered by the consultant psychiatrist.

To be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing services to Spalding Older Adults CMHT

To be mindful of and actively involved in current safeguarding practices.

To be familiar and up to date with relevant mental health and capacity act legislation inrelation to the care of older people

To be involved in the assessment and management of urgent and routine referrals.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. At least 4 years' full-time postgraduate training, or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis. At least two full-time years in a specialty training programme in relevant specialty, or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies. Full GMC registration.

Desirable

MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Approved Clinician status, or able to achieve within 3 months Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
