Due to changes in our service delivery, we are looking to recruit two 0.8WTE HCPC Registered Clinical or Forensic Psychologist (or anyone still in training and due to qualify in 2024/25) to work with adult male patients within our Medium Secure Service. The Service

The roles are on two male medium secure wards that provide care and treatment for working age males with mental health problems and forensic risk needs. You will work closely with the other male wards and clinical teams to ensure the pathways between the wards/services are maximised and meet patients’ needs as they progress through treatment and recovery.

Fairbairn ward – This is a ward for Deaf patients and one of a few in the UK who provides treatment in secure care. The ward is part of a wider Deaf Service that deliver care to females in a blended service and males and females in the community. All staff can use British Sign Language, but interpreters are also used. You will work with two part time consultant psychologists.

Prichard ward - This is one of three Working Age Male wards. We have one admissions ward and two treatment wards, of which Prichard is one. Each ward has a psychologist and an assistant psychologist and they work closely together to ensure treatment planning and delivery is optimised. 

Benefits of this role and service

Work in a psychology team with clinical and forensic psychologists and one assistant psychologist for each ward. Psychology staff with a wide range of specialist therapeutic skills such as advanced training in CBT, EMDR, DBT, violence interventions, Fire Setting, sexual offending treatment as well as wide range of clinical and forensic specialist assessment skills. Specialist Medium Secure services of which only a few exists in the country such as for Acquired Brain Injury, DEAF males and females, Older Men and a medium secure / low secure blended service for females. Weekly reflective practice, CPD and formulation meetings for the psychology staff in the division. Opportunity to work across wards to develop experience or deliver specialist work. Opportunity to contribute to service delivery and innovation in the department and division. Research support and opportunities. Opportunities and support to develop into Principal and Consultant level roles in the future. Undertake additional paid assignments such as individual therapies, assessments, etc. in our Community Partnerships Team.
