A fast-improving community special school in Scarborough is seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teacher (Primary) to join their enthusiastic and supportive staff team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO and other staff.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages positive behaviour and a love for learning.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and other specialists to support the holistic development of students.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure continuity of support for the children.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning strategies within the school.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working with primary-aged children with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and experience in creating and reviewing IEPs.
  • Ability to differentiate teaching methods to suit a wide range of learning abilities and needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate approach to supporting children with complex needs.
  • A commitment to professional development and a desire to contribute to the school’s continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • SENCO qualification or willingness to work towards this.
  • Experience with specific SEN teaching methods, such as TEACCH, PECS, or Makaton.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques tailored to children with SEN.
