Help us make a difference as a Chargehand at our household waste recycling centre in Worthing.

A quick look at the role.

To assist the Site Supervisor in the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the chosen site, together with assistance to Member of the Public (MOPs) visiting the site.

To support the Site Supervisor in the execution of their daily duties including H&S, compliance and managing elements of the site.

Days of work.

HWRS Summer - 8:45am to 6.15pm (5 days per week).
HWRS Winter - 8.45am to 4.15pm (closed Tues & Wed)

  • Assist the site supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the respective site in accordance with site licence, contractual conditions and as directed by the Site Supervisor.
  • Support the site supervisor with H&S requirements; compliance responsibilities in accord with GIMS, permit, planning, and other documentation; management of the site.
  • Act as the site supervisor in their absence.
  • Segregation of waste to maximise the amounts that can be recycled.
  • Assist members of the public and other site users to deposit and segregate their waste.
  • Perform basic maintenance and housekeeping duties to site equipment and facilities.
  • Control site traffic and assist site users to ensure safe and efficient site use.
  • Deal with unauthorised personnel illegally using the centre, i.e. through disturbing refuse, stealing, or carrying out unauthorised tipping.
  • Maintain centre records as necessary to comply with licence, legislative and company requirements.
  • Monitor waste to determine waste type and quantity, to ensure conformity to centre licence. Ensure segregation and security of hazardous and special waste types to provide safe and efficient centre use.
