So, if you are a GMC registered Ophthalmologist who has passed both the Part 1 FRCOphth and the Refraction examination, and you are looking for a team that will support you while completing your specialist training through the 'Certificate confirming Eligibility for Specialist Registration' (CESR).

If successful, you will be based across the MSE and will have the opportunity to rotate across the wider Trust and gain further experience by working collaboratively with colleagues across our friendly multidisciplinary team with the aim to expand the service further with innovative leadership, ideas, audit, and research projects.

Main duties of the job

Acute ophthalmology clinics in the eye emergency department (EED) and ward referrals including visiting other hospitals.

Please note the service does require a good degree of flexibility from the post holder.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty. Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems. Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.

Qualifications

Essential

Eligible or have Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice MBBS or equivalent Completed 4 years full time post graduate training (or equivalent if part time) at least 2 of which shall be in a specialty training programme in the specialty FRCOphth or equivalent

Teaching experience

Essential

Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff ability to teach clinical skills

Research/Audit Experience

Essential

Knowledge of the principles of research/audit and ability to interpret and apply clinical research Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

Desirable

Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal.
