Job summary

Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent Band 6 on the CATunit.

Thesuccessful candidates will be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and have therequired skills to Triage and VET to ensurethe best patient centred care and experience as the front door serviceto the Childrens Hospital.

TheCAT unit is a dynamic service assessing and treating children and young peoplefrom birth to 16 who require the expertise of the general paediatricmedical/surgical teams having been referred from their GP or from PaediatricEmergency Department.

Therole will involve providing high quality direct patient care including a vetand Triage process for children and young people ensuring patient safety isparamount and coordinating the activity throughout the unit working closelywith the medical team.

Therole will also involve supporting the band 7 with the day-to-day management ofthe unit including attendance management, management of the off duty, audits,change management and being an effective leader and role model for the juniorand multi- disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Themain duties will involve ensuring the patients are vetted and Triaged in theappropriate timeframes. Managing their own patient workload in addition toleading and co- ordinating the unit on a shift-by-shift basis workingcollaboratively with the MDT and closely with the PFC

Thecandidate will be expected to be involved in audits, attendance management,change management and supporting the band 7 in the day-to-day management of theward.

Job responsibilities

Thejobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/ChargeNurse with the 24 hour continuingresponsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward /department. They will contribute to theprovision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision forthe nursing team. The jobholder isresponsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or departmentsphilosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and qualitycare delivery. By assisting withmanaging the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholderwill support the cost effective use of resources.

Asan experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in co-ordinating activities onthe ward or department ensuring effective communication is maintained at alltimes, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within theward/dept. He/she will play a key rolein the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation andevaluation of programmes of care.

Thejobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice,developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of theward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

Thejobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinicalsituation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length oftime.

Significant post registration experience at staff nurse level or equivalent Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues Audit and Standard setting experience
