Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist in the North Kensington and Chelsea Community Mental Health Hub. The hub is located in W9 with great transport links and serving a diverse population. The role is perfect for an Occupational Therapist with experience working in mental health wanting to broaden your skills in a community setting.

The post holder will be a valued member of the team and will offer Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for clients as well as supporting the overall work of the team by providing case work and some duty support.

The friendly and supportive team consists of medical staff, nurses, social workers, peer support workers, community navigators, arts therapies, employment specialists and psychology staff. There are two other Occupational Therapists in the team in and the post holder will co-facilitate some established groups as a part of the psychosocial offer of the hub and will have opportunity to use skills and creativity in developing further group interventions.

There are excellent training and development opportunities available within CNWL in addition to local in house CPD opportunities. Team supervision will be provided by a senior member of the MDT and professional supervision will be provided by the K&C Lead OT.

Main duties of the job

To work as a Senior Occupational Therapist in Adult Community Mental Health providing a high quality service to clients. To provide OT assessment and intervention for clients under the care of the team. To provide home assessments for adapted equipment, support recommendations and for accommodation needs. To provide evidence based group interventions. To provide a case worker role for a designated number of clients with an occupational focus. To work within the multidisciplinary team and support the overall functioning of the team. To offer clinical placements to Occupational Therapy Students. To provide informal support and supervision to other staff as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES

Essential

Clear understanding of the OT role in community mental health Excellent communication skills 1:1 intervention experience Individual/Group work skills and experience Good awareness of the principles of safeguarding and how to implement this in practice Good understanding of the application of risk assessment and risk management strategies which facilitates a patient's recovery Ability to work autonomously, as well as part of an MDT. Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative Timely reporting and record keeping To actively supervise both OT students and unqualified staff. Recovery focused approach to service delivery Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach that considers the needs of the whole person. Able to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication skills To have completed practice placement educators' course. To determine the impact of mental and physical conditions on service user's functional ability and undertake assessment/make recommendations with regards to the provision of equipment/aids and adaptations

Extensive post qualification experience working in mental health settings asan Occupational Therapist Experience of working with service users presenting with a wide range of complex mental health conditions. Experience of delivering healthy lifestyle interventions Experience in assessment and interventions related to physical healthcare needs Experience in using a range of standardised OT assessments Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment Experience of drafting group protocols and setting up / facilitating groups / group programme Supervision of OT students / non-qualified staff Experience of partnership working in promoting socially inclusive opportunities for patients. Risk assessment and risk management experience

Desirable

Experience of working in an adult mental health community team Personal experience of using mental health services Experience in audit / research projects.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Occupational Therapist. Practice Educator training

Desirable

Post qualification training in relevant mental health skills.
