Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor with in the Occupational Therapy Service, Broadmoor Hospital, High Security Service.

The post is open to experienced OT assistants who are able to demonstrate an advanced level of skills which would enable them to work at a higher level in interventions with patients. They would be able to run planned treatment sessions and feedback a clinical picture of patients in the session in the patients Rio records. Please see the job description for details.

Applicants will need to be to have a good working knowledge of forensic mental health services and the clinical and environmental risks involved in working in high security.

Main duties of the job

The OT Technician is about to facilitate treatment session to meet the patients OT care plan at the correct performance level. (VdT MoCA)

To actively develop and implement new interventions for patients meeting which considers the patient demographic for age, culture and interests.

The post holder will make accurate and professional notes in patients RiO record regularly and in an acceptable time scale.

To attend and contribution to MDT discussions regarding patient’s progression and effectively feedback their engagement within Occupational Therapy

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

Competed a minimum of 2 years of an OT Apprenticeship Good general education with minimum of 2 CSE, GCSE or O’ Levels To have a relevant trade or skill NVQ, City and Guilds, BTEC Adult Education qualification – PTLLS( Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

Desirable criteria

Motivation and Engagement Training Degree or additional qualifications in a relevant area.

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working with patients with mental illness and personality disorder. Experience of OT assessments and treatment session. Experience as a band 3 in a relevant patient care NHS post. Good working knowledge environmental risk factors. Experience motivating and engaging patients.

Desirable criteria

Experience at working with others on implementing a new activity. Experience of a working within a team and to be able to work well with others. Has a thorough understanding of the function and role of their service

Knowledge

Essential criteria

To have a working knowledge of the importance of grading therapeutic / activities to meet patients’ needs. Evidence in mental health awareness Aware of the environment within a high secure setting and how to maintain safety for themselves and others

Desirable criteria

To have knowledge of clinical models / treatments used in the hospital. To have knowledge of person-centred care and support. Knowledge of wider NHS papers or policies relevant to Mental Health To have a working knowledge of the importance of grading tasks to meet patients’ needs.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria

Understands and demonstrates the principles of team work Ability to work autonomously with the support of a band 5 occupational therapist. Clear effective session planning Good IT skills Manages own workload and time
