About the Role:

GSL Education are currently seeking to appoint a qualified and enthusiastic SEN teacher to undertake a position at one of our client primary schools in Sheffield. A teacher working with students with special educational needs and mental health needs in primary schools play a vital role in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments, promoting the well-being and academic success of all students. Seize this chance to influence the next generation's development within GSL's creative and collaborative teaching atmosphere, receiving valuable support along the way.

Role of a SEN teacher:

  • SEN teacher provides tailored support to students with special educational needs and mental health concerns. They work closely with teachers and other professionals to implement strategies outlined in education, health, and care plans. This may include assisting with specific interventions, accommodations, and therapies designed to support students' learning and well-being.
  • SEN teacher offers emotional support to students with mental health needs, helping them manage emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. They provide a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel valued, understood, and encouraged to express themselves.
  • In situations where students experience mental health crises or emotional distress, SEN teacher may provide immediate support and assistance. They follow established protocols for crisis intervention, ensuring the safety and well-being of students while seeking appropriate professional help and support.
  • SEN teacher engages in ongoing professional development to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting students with special educational needs and mental health concerns. They may receive training in areas such as autism awareness, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, and behavior management strategies.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working as a Teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) within a SEN educational        setting.
  • Contact details for professional references, typically including previous employers, colleagues, or mentors who can provide insights into your teaching abilities, experience in SEN education, and character.
  • Hold relevant qualifications or training in education, childcare, or a related field.
  • Are passionate about supporting the learning and development of student and making a positive difference in their lives.
