POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The Epidemiologist 1 position will support quantitativeand qualitative evaluation efforts of the Tennessee Department ofHealth (TDH) Division of Health Disparities Elimination(DHDE).
  • The position will develop and testspecific tools and instruments to capture organize and analyzeinformation related to focus groups key informant interviewsthematic reviews surveys EHR extracts and other data collectionmethods as appropriate.
  • Developing datacollection tools via REDCap conducting basic descriptiveepidemiologic analyses and developing reports are core functions ofthe position. The position will create data models visualizationscharts tables and other resources for use by nontechnical usersboth internal and external to the Department.
  • The position will also identify and report meaningfulmetrics to gauge progress on projects and provide data drivenrecommendations for the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES/WORKACTIVITIES

  • The positionsresponsibilities include but are not limited to thefollowing:
  • Facilitate collaborative meetingswith DHDE staff grantees and contractors in designing and executingplans for program data collection and analysis in alignment withfederal and state specific strategies and work plans.
  • Manage multiple projects and job duties through efficienttask management including status meetings weekly reports andidentification tracking and resolution of problems andissues.
  • Research quantitative and qualitativemethods and recommend certain approaches.
  • Analyze data using Excel SAS SPSS MS Accessthematic review software or other applications asneeded.
  • Provide technical assistanceand guidance to staff and key partners (internal and external) ondata collection methods reporting and analysis.
  • Communicate and disseminate information to DHDE staffgrantees contractors and stakeholders verbally and in writingrelated to program activities as well as findings from variousanalyses.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS& ABILITIES

  • Thepositions knowledge and skills include but are not limited to thefollowing:
  • Demonstrated ability to gatherorganize analyze and interpret data.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective insightful datavisualizations.
  • Experience withREDCap Tableau and/or statistical software suchas R SAS STATA or SPSS
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects with multiplestakeholders.
  • Demonstrated time managementskills and proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneouslywhile completing work within allocated time frames.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skillsincluding the ability to communicate effectively with bothtechnical and lay audiences.
  • Superioranalytical and problemsolving skills working both individually andas part of a team.
  • Ability to workcollaboratively across programs and offices and interact with alllevels of departmental staff the public and other governmental andnongovernmental entities.
  • Knowledge ofanalytical and evaluation methods to evaluate policies programs andissues.
  • Good understanding ofdatabases

EDUCATION ANDEXPERIENCE

  • Graduation froman accredited college or university with a masters degree inepidemiology public health biostatistics statistics healthinformatics health science biomedical science or environmentalscience field with experience equivalent to two years workexperience in epidemiology
  • Masters degree inpublic health or other quantitatively based social scienceeducation is desirable.
  • Public healthexperience is a plus.

OTHERREQUIREMENTS/INFORMATION

  • This is a hybrid position and must be available to reportto the office at minimum 1 or 2 times per month or more asneeded.
  • The candidate must reside in or bewilling to relocate to Tennessee.
  • The workweek will be parttime 25 hours per week.
