Job Description

Ramboll invite you to apply for a Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprenticeship in our Rail Systems Team, assisting the team in delivering Rail Systems design services across a wide range of projects. You will be provided full support to achieve a Level 4 qualification (Rail Engineering), typically on a day release basis and create a solid foundation for a successful and satisfying career.

The Apprenticeship Programme Duration, Cost and Qualifications

The duration of the academic course is 4 years. The cost of the Apprenticeship is paid by Ramboll through the Apprenticeship Levy.

Qualifications to be awarded

Level 4 Rail Engineering Apprenticeship On completion of apprentice will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician by the relevant Professional Engineering Institutions.

Progression Opportunities

On completion of the Apprenticeship, there may be potential onward career progression within Rail Systems to continue to work as a Technician or study further education through apprenticeships.

Apprenticeship Course Delivery

Ramboll are intending to deliver the Apprenticeship with You would typically work for 4 days a week within your job delivery role and study would be 1 day a week with The Educationwise Academy via a combination of lectures, laboratory work, tutorials, workshops, practical sessions, and online activities combined with your own research using the library and the web. This may vary and would subject to confirmation when enrolling onto the program.

Towards the end of the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete an End Point Assessment where you will need to demonstrate that during the apprenticeship you have learnt the required knowledge, skills and behaviours.

You will join our Rail Systems   department

As our new Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprentice, you will be part of a fast growing, dynamic team in our Southampton office. You will be working with an exciting team of experts, who respect each other and work towards a common goal by applying cutting edge technology in the design of ground and related structures. You will be provided with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of experienced, industry-leading professionals. 

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

Apply scientific, technical and engineering principles to railway signalling design, maintenance and construction, both in the UK and overseas Understand safe and professional working practices, regulations and risk management Design and develop engineering solutions, considering failure modes and causes Effectively deliver engineering projects, utilising project management principles Understand the commercial aspects and evolution of the railway industry Gain knowledge of the railway system and their role within it Work towards gaining an IRSE Signalling Designer’s licence whilst being mentored by experienced signalling design engineers Perform complex analysis using computer modelling; making, reading, and interpreting technical material Develop digital tools and approaches to leverage these opportunities Translate complex engineering concepts and solutions into presentations, reports, sketches, drawings and infographics that communicate their essence and demonstrate their value to our clients and key stakeholders Recognise the importance of 3rd party requirements and operational interfaces Learn to identify potential health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial risks on our projects and contribute towards mitigating them Monitor the implementation of design throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to construction and operation Contribute to the development of company procedures by taking an active role in task groups, Proactively pursue continuous professional development including working towards corporate membership and / or chartership with a recognised institution You will be working alongside the rest of the Transport team, and teams of all disciplines nationally and internationally across the Ramboll Group to deliver our projects Promote the Ramboll brand, its core values and our strategy as The Partner for Sustainable Change Apply and promote policies relating to health and safety, quality and the Environment

You will have achieved or be on track to achieve 3 A Levels or equivalent including maths at grade C or higher Must have 5 GCSE’s – Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or higher A keen interest in the Built Environment Capable of working independently and as part of a team Strong technology skills CAD knowledge and or experience is desirable but not essential
