Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative Band 7 clinical psychologist within the Psychological and Mental Health Services (PAMHS) at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).This post sits within the Specialist Health Conditions (SHC) Paediatric Psychology stream and is linked to the neurology service.

The post holder will provide psychological assessment and interventions to children with a range of neurological conditions and their families, working closely with specialist paediatric consultants and allied health professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure the systematic provision of a high quality clinical psychology service to patients and families within the neurology service, working closely with specialist paediatric consultants and allied health professionals. This will include evidence-based psychological and developmental assessment, recommendations to inform decision-making in relation to holistic person-centred intervention, and extensive consultation to professional colleagues and other agencies involved in the child's care.

Development of working relationships and pathways across the sector is encouraged, with excellent opportunities for continuing professional development. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the flexible delivery of psychology services across the Trust, in response to new developments and organisational changes.

The post holder will also be expected to work flexibly within PAMHS, including carrying out clinical work in other specialties according to service need. The successful candidate will join a large, supportive team of psychologists working across GOSH and will be able to access the learning and opportunities that come with being part of a large psychology service at a leading children's hospital.

This post will be linked to the neurology service and the post holder will provide psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to children with a range of neurological conditions and their families.

Education and qualifications

Essential

Good honours degree in Psychology. Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and lifespan developmental psychology. Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable

Post-doctoral training and recorded CPD experience and /or further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Skills and abilities

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours. Evidence of skilled and productive multidisciplinary team working Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, including verbal abuse.

Ability to administer, score and interpret a range of cognitive assessment tools

Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection. Experience and expertise with a specialist paediatric client group

Desirable

Experience of teaching or training. Experience of presenting psychology to multidisciplinary audiences at conferences or other educational settings. Experience in delivering evidence based interventions for a range of child and adolescent mental health problems
