Job summary

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) is an established provider of the national programme, 'NHS Talking Therapies' formerly known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies' (IAPT). The service provides stepped care treatment for people with mild, moderate and severe common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 x Senior Clinicians to join our Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Talking Therapies (CPTT) teams based in Cambridge. However, as a senior clinician you may support wider service as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will undertake duties such as providing line management and clinical supervision to staff in the team as well as deputising for the team leader as appropriate. As a Senior Clinician in the team, a high level of autonomy is required for this post in order to support the leadership of the service and ensure we are achieving monthly performance indicators.

The successful candidate will therefore need to be flexible, evidence reliability and demonstrate the ability to cope with a demanding job. The post holder will be enthusiastic, hard working and able to meet specified targets in order to deliver a high quality Primary Care Mental Health Service to the local population.

The CPFT Talking Therapies service is required to provide a stepped care model of treatment for people mainly experiencing anxiety and depression in primary care. The post holder will work with the clinical lead and supervisors to be involved with: Ensuring clinical interventions are implemented in line with the latest NICE guidelines for psychological interventions. Protocols and arrangements are in place so that people can be stepped up and down to and from the service as required. Procedures are in place for operation of the service. Clinical governance arrangements are in place to cover all of the clinical activity. Staff are appropriately skilled and trained to deliver the service and to provide supervision. Supervision arrangements are in place for all elements of service delivery. Provide high intensity evidence based psychological interventions for some of the more complex cases referred to the team. Adhere to all clinical policies and procedures. Maintain high clinical standards in all aspects of the work. Provide clinical supervision in the service. Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management in line with Trust and inter-agency policies and procedures, including work with clients deemed as vulnerable adults. Take special responsibility for the assessment of risk in relation to the presentation of clients with complex psychological needs, enabling other members of the service to assign them to the appropriate place on the care pathway. Communicate, in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, to clients, family carers and others as appropriate, information that may be contentious or highly distressing concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care. Produce reports on clients, in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of psychological assessment and formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrers. Work in partnership with other disciplines and to maintain links with statutory and non-statutory agencies as appropriate. Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

Professional training which supports the ability to provide high intensity clinical interventions PG Dip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or its equivalent eligible for BABCP accreditation)

Desirable

Registration with Health Professions Council as a practitioner psychologist Undertaken post-qualification further training in a specialised area of psychological intervention Leadership training

Experience

Essential

Assessed and proven experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist or BABCP accredited High intensity Psychological Therapist for a minimum of two years. Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets

Desirable

Experience of working in Talking Therapies services Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Involvement in research/ service development programmes

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

Demonstrates an understanding of the national Talking Therapies service and how it links to governmental objectives Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups ( depression, OCD, PTSD, personality, people with additional disabilities etc.)

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling formation of networks with professionals within the Trust and from other agencies to promote effective team working with clients Ability to work within a team fostering good working relationships Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality
